Let's say it's the Coetzee of the Snipes/Pinklon/Dokes period (he was more or less robbed against Renaldo, fought Pinky to a draw and won the title against Dynamite) vs. the Floyd who beat Ingo twice and had a few defenses worth of experience under his belt. Fifteen rounds. It Gerrie's bionic right too much for Floyd's fickle whiskers, or would Patterson's speed blind the South African? I'm going with Coetzee to win by KO while behind on points. Ultimately, Patterson cannot stand up to a real puncher (although he was a bit of a different animal later in his career durability-wise), and I don't think he has quite enough to keep Gerrie off of him for the full duration. What say you?
Coetzee had the right hand power of Ingo but a better set of whiskers IMO, Floyd had the better skills but I dont think he gets past the power of Gerrie
This on falls into the "styles back fights" category. Overall Patterson was the better fighter, with a more successful career. Coetzee right hand finds Floyd once to often, and Coetzee stops Floyd in the mid rounds.
Yeah as much I wish I could pick Patterson, his size and chin would prevent him from beating a lot of heavyweights and ones that weren't necessarily great either.
The Coetzee of the Spinks fight STILL impresses me...he threw that fast right hand with positively evil intentions...and with confidence of course. I think Gerrie would have caught Floyd with a "bionic" right hand that would have been too much...and it pains me so say that because I love Floyd Patterson.
It was Coetzee-Spinks and later Coetzee-Dokes that convinced me that Gerrie was a better fighter than Gerry ****ey, and H2H he would have ko'ed ****ey.
Probably right. For the thread, though, I think Gerrie stops Floyd in the 3rd after multiple knockdowns.
