Who wins if both are at their peak?

Is Dempsey's power too much for Floyd's chin, or is Floyd's speed too much for Jack?

It is funny because most of people always always use the argument "Marciano or Dempsey hitting the chin of Patterson? No chance for Patterson"

But they simply ignore that the reverse could happen too, YES,ABSOLUTELY, PATTERSON HAD THE POWER TO KNOCK OUT MARCIANO OR DEMPSEY. So what if the faster Patterson landed first?

Floyd has speed and power so he has the attributes to give Dempsey something to think about at least early on, imo. I think he can likely knock Jack down, but keeping him down is another thing however.
Johansson gave Patterson all kinds of problems in their rivalry and Jack at his best is better overall than Ingo.
I'd pick Jack to stop Floyd handily in the earlier rounds.

Patterson was a bit more refined but Jack was tougher and rougher. I think that Dempsey's durability edge is enough to stop Patterson in mid rounds.

I view them as comparable fighters historically and have them close on my all-time list.

Dempsey s ferocity would be the key here. His greater strength and chin takes it against Patterson s speed.
Maybe a few rounds where Floyd has the upper hand with his handspeed but only a matter of time before JD lower s the boom and drops him. Dempsey by about 5 imo.

Dempsey was faster than Patterson. Up to 1950 they said Dempsey was the fastest ever.

I think Patterson had the best hand speed of any of the heavyweight champs.

Have to go w Dempsey. Pretty even in many fronts but Dempsey was more ferocious. Both had heart power and speed.

Patterson is clearly faster than Dempsey by my eye.

But i don't think he can keep out of trouble for any meaningful duration.

I wonder how Patterson would get on with Dempsey's opposition? Is there anyone there he'd run afoul of?

Can't really compare the speeds of the films can you? Just saying what I read all the time.

Shouldn't you be somewhere licking up Sea and Ks druel?

Patterson is too quick and technically good for Dempsey. His guard is tight, his punches are shorter. He's got a jab to control Dempsey and far better combination punching. Dempsey struggled with his faster opponents. He got outboxed by Tunney, got tagged very clean by Firpo, Brennan and Carpentier. Dempsey didn't land his best punches as easily on faster opponents. Either have the power to KO the other man and both have KO defeats. So either could win by KO but I'll go with the better skills, foundamentals and speed.

Patterson just not sure if a decision or a KO

Floyd is one of my favorite fighters. He proved he could get up from knockdowns to win.

But when you see him go down so many times against so many limited guys, it's tough to pick Floyd over Dempsey.

It could've been a wild night, though.
