Yes, I'm the Floyd 'nuthugger' here but...
    Styles make fights.
    Patterson could never beat Ali.
Floyd laid Cooper out into a puddle.
Ali could only beat Cooper via UD or cuts (twice)
Jimmy hung with Lyle, Norton, Foreman, and Ali.
Patterson beat Machen (without malice) 10-1-1, 9-2-1, & 9-3 on the scorecards.
If Floyd left his aggressiveness aside but still let fly with his
combos, I can see a solid UD in his favor.
If he came out aggressive with, at least, a semi-killer instinct, I think he could reach Jimmy and stop him, something others weren't able to do.
As I said styles make fights and I feel Patterson could have stopped Young in his prime.
Feel free to weigh in. :D

May be a tough match-up because of Floyds speed and sporadic combo's but Jimmy was difficult for Ali and others Foreman, Lyle. I see a tough fight but Floyd may just have enough offense to win this but he never faced anyone close to Young as a defensive wizard

Wow! This is an interesting one! I favor Patterson, but then again we're talking about Young, a guy who gave Ali a thorough boxing lesson!

I felt Young defeated Ali too, but to be fair Ali was fat, which was his fault no excuses but Patterson would be in shape I think like the above poster stated he out works jimmy for a deciscion.

Patterson is my pick. Hes faster than Jimmy, busier, and hit harder.

I don't know. Might be a tricky fight for Floyd to win

Patterson having a weak chin is irrelevant here as he would be facing one of the lightest hitters in division history and one who preferred to run and be elusive rather that to fight aggressively. The fights he had with Norton and Ali were when they were past it, and I'm still not certain Young deserved the nod. For the record, I think its possible that Young COULD win, but its not something that I'd bet any real money on, let alone stand on a soap box and chastise those for picking Patterson.

Jimmy Young was one durable fighter. Floyd may well outwork him but I can't see any stoppage

Young, Ellis, Machen, and Folley were all very close in the skill department with any of them a decent bet to beat the others on their best day. Floyd clearly beat Eddie and most had him the winner over Ellis (I had it a draw). Floyd had the right speed and tools to beat Jimmy and his chin wouldn't be stung by Young, the fight would be similar to the ones mentioned above and Floyd's being able to hurt Young would play a factor in his winning.
