Floyd could have easily made LHW well into his heavyweight career. He talks in his book about having to build himself up. He would have beat the hell out of Saad no matter what he weighed. Saad, as fun as he was to watch, was a catcher, and he would have been nailed all night long against Floyd. I don't see him getting out of this one on his feet.
Floyd for sure but I disagree with his being able to make light heavyweight well into his career. He wrote in his autobiography "Victory Over Myself" that he struggled terribly to make 175 before he won the title.
I love both of these fighters. I think had Patterson came around at a later era he’d probably have campaigned as a light heavyweight and reigned for a long time such was his ability. You’d have to imagine Patterson beats Saad and beats him well.
Agree totally! Has there ever been such a 'tweenie' as Floyd? He turned pro at 17! He couldn't have remained at 175. Once he was a grown man (mid-late sixties) he settled in at around 188-192 for virtually EVERY fight. Look up "greatest Crusierweight that should have been a Cruiser" and Patterson would probably be at the top of the list.
As painfully as it is to say I gotta go with Floyd. When Matt was Champ he lived about 5 miles away from me. One of my very top ATFAvorites
Saad Muhammad was too much a warrior to be competitive with F.Patterson . What I mean by that is Saad Muhammad had the tendency to Brawl when hurt. That would've been disastrous against a fighter as talented as Patterson was. Saad Muhammad would've had to fight the most disciplined fight of his career to just finish the fight on his feet. That wouldn't be likely.
Almost all comments hit this one perfectly, Floyd too talented all around, too much power, and speed, and he probably takes a bit better punch from the guys at LHW that don't hit as hard as Heavies did against him. I see Saad going out in less than 5 rounds easy.
