I'm a bit split on Holmes on the one hand I can see Holmes winning in similar fashion to Ali ... on the other hand I remember the beating Holmes got from Tyson. And yes, Holmes was past it (still fought on for a few years with good results) and Patterson is smaller and less powerful than Tyson. But somehow that makes me wonder if Patterson is not in there with a decent chance. I would make Floyd a favourite over Spinks. Michael is in with a good chance but I think Patterson takes is by decision.
Patterson and spinks Duke it out where the winner by split decision is spinks. In the rematch Floyd turns the table s. Holmes to much for Patterson who is stopped in the twelve.
Floyd vs Spinks would be a very good fight. I give the edge to Spinks. Holmes is too much for Floyd though
Holmes' jab is too powerful for Floyd. Floyd vs Spinks is a toss-up depending on how MSpinks decides to fight.
Larry's size and jab would keep Floyd off of him. Holmes was prone to big rights out of nowhere and Floyd wanted to open up with his left hook. Floyd's combos may frustrate Larry and even hurt him on occasion but I see nothing more than a Holmes UD here. Spinks? I think a Floyd decision is not out of the question. My eras caveat comes into play here (again). Of course Patterson could land a bomb of a left hook or catch Michael in a corner and lay some major combos on him. Take your pick. One things for sure. Spinks is not going to KO Floyd.
I see a Patterson/Holmes fight going the way Ali/Patterson did as Holmes had many of the same advantages that Ali had over Patterson. Patterson would land his shots, but I think Holmes would stop Patterson late whilst taking a knockdown from a Holmes right hand. With Patterson/Spinks at HW, I think it would depend on how much Spinks weighed in relation to Patterson. Patterson was as low as 182 lbs at heavy, not much bigger than the 175 lbs light heavy limit. And a 175 Spinks vs 182 lb Patterson would still be a tough fight for both. If you make Spinks the 200-212 lbs he was at heavy vs a 182 lbs Patterson, I think they are so similar in skill that Spinks added weight advantage would put him over the top. I think Spinks hit hard enough at heavyweight to pull a Johansson on a 182 pound Patterson. Now if we go with the prime version of Patterson that was 190-194 pounds, then I think it gets tighter, especially if Spinks is right at 200 pounds. I'd favor the 208 lbs Spinks that stopped Cooney or the 212 lbs Spinks who was stopped by Tyson. But only somewhat. They were so close in skill that something would have to break the tie. A 175 lbs Spinks vs a 182-194 lbs Patterson, I'd favor Patterson all day. 190-194 Patterson vs 200 pound Spinks, hard to call it. 190-194 lbs Spinks vs 208-212 lbs Spinks, I'd pick Spinks by stoppage but again, tentatively. Patterson could crack, but at heavy, I can't say how his power affects Spinks. Spinks was stopped by a prime Tyson quickly, but Tyson was a grade above Patterson in punching power. So if Patterson beat Spinks, I would have to say he decisions him.
Yeah I see Patterson being stopped by Holmes late as well. But I think moments before it happens, he falls from a Holmes right hand, gets up and is stopped on his feet.
I don't know....I think he hit hard enough at heavyweight to pull a Johannson. Cooney wasn't the best opponent, but he was a 6'6 240 lbs super heavy that Spinks, a native light heavy hit hard enough at 208 lbs to bang to the canvas. I think Spinks at that size definitely hit hard enough to do damage to any 175-200 lb'er. Otherwise I agree with the post.
Yep, that's the way it would probably go. I don't see a early stoppage from Holmes against Floyd. Can see Holmes banging the jab in, with Floyd struggling to do much at all. Floyd s as brave as they come, he'll keep on trying. But as the fight goes on It looks more and more one sided. Similar to the Patterson and Ali bouts
I see Holmes winning easily. Much like the first Ali-Patterson fight. I favor Spinks also, but this would be a tougher fight. I can't think of anyone Patterson defeated who was much like Spinks with the height and awkward skill.
I can't think of anyone Spinks defeated with the blistering combos/left hook/and HEART! At Heavy IMO, Floyd UD. At LH? Wait a minute, Floyd was never a LH only as a teenager.
