Assuming this is at heavyweight even though Spink was at his best at light heavy Floyd moved up to heavy when he was very young. Under those circumstances I like Floyd by decision.

The Spinks that beat 237 lb Cooney could beat Patterson. Spinks at 6' 2-1/2", 208 lbs, and with a 76" reach would be a lot bigger that Floyd at 6' 0", 190 lbs, with a 71" reach. Plus, Spinks had both a crushing right hand, and a powerful uppercut.

Spinks never was "bigger " than Patterson. Floyd was naturally thicker

Floyd gets stopped in this matchup .I don't see it been a fast KO though like against Liston or ingo. A late stoppage coming around the 14 th.Floyd having success early and catching spink s .
But Michael takes over and hurts Floyd with the uppercut .A dazed Patterson is pulled out by the ref after hitting the canvas twice.

I think Floyd would get Sprinks outa there late into the fight. His speed and hitting power would be a major factor.

It would be a good fight though and Jinx would certainly give him problems with his awkwardness.

I'd lean toward Floyd by decision or late stoppage, Spinks doesn't have the power to blow out Patterson and Floyd was a very good boxer

Floyd by ko. He was faster and hits harder. Patterson is on the top of the most underrated fighters in this forum. I would not be surprised for any idiot saying that floyd never had great chin so hagler or julian jackson could stop him. Years ago a ******ed said that about tommy Morrison. . what an idiot...Morrison would kill hagler with the first left hook.the people think that if certain fighter is a puncher in his natural division he still will be the same puncher if he move up in weight class

IMO, it depends on how much Patterson weighs relative to Spinks. Patterson was as low as 182 pounds at heavy. It's very reasonable to assume that even in defeat, Spinks weighing 175 pounds would give 182 pounds Patterson a good fight. So if you beef up Spinks to 200-212 pounds, I think he stops Patterson similar to how he was stopped by Johannson. Spinks at 208 pounds hit hard enough to put the 240ish pound Gerry Cooney on the canvas and stop him. I believe those same shots landed on a 182 pound Patterson from a 208 pound Spinks would do serious damage.

Now, if you get Patterson up to 190+ pounds, I think it would be a closer fight. He was 190+ pounds in his 2nd and third fight with Johansson and I do believe that he took Johansson's punches better because he weighed more. They are close in skill level and it could go either way.

So Patterson at 182 vs Spinks at 200-212 pounds I pick Spinks to stop him.

Patterson at 190+ vs Spinks at 200-212 pounds I lean towards Spinks but Patterson could realistically take it.

Yeah this is why I lean towards Spinks
