  1. if rocky had not retired? what would have happened ? a great and young floyd patterson vs the undefeated rocky marciano in 1956
    and the rematch ?

At that point in Rock's career, Patterson would have been too much for him.
Yes, Floyd has a bad chin (although people tend to exaggerate), but I can't see Rocky KEEPING Floyd on the mat. Yes, he might be able to knock him down, but Patterson would get back up. Rocky doesn't have Liston-type power.

Archie Moore (+-140 KOs) couldn't stop a prime Patterson, so I doubt Marciano could. Patterson would win a UD over Rocky in '56. Prime vs prime is a different story though.

  3. yes, i agree, but i think that rocky would have chance with his punching power, and floyd would beat him in the rematch maybe?

  4. moorer had great %ko principally like lhw

Rocky knocked better fighters out than Liston.

:thinkYes, if Rocky can get to Charles than it's conceivable that he could get to Patterson. Only difference is that Ezzard was past it and this would be Patterson at his peak. Interesting fight though...

Marciano looked past prime in 55 and I think he knew it, in 56 he'd be 33, slower, less stamina and less desire to go through near death to win a boxing match. He obviously can still pull a KO out of the bag but Patterson would outbox him early and his speed advantage would make it hard for Rocky to chase down as a 33yo. Patterson is also a very underrated puncher who could hurt Rocky

Obviously, Rocky retired because he felt sated and didn't feel the need to go on. Therefore Rocky's appetite had diminished to the point where he didn't want to go through the rigours of hard preparation, etc.

However, the Rocky Marciano that came to the table in all his world title fights would, imo, be much too much of a beast for Floyd. Floyd may have some success, as some of Rocky's challengers did, for Rocky's style was conducive to hard fights. But I go for Rocky by kayo.

Floyd's chin is too fragile to withstand Marciano's punches.

Rocky would find his chin eventually
Floyd's tendency to brawl would certainly hurt him in this fight I think

:good Exactly...the power would have still been there but he'd have to take a LOT of punishment from a prime Patterson to get the KO.

  12. i would say tko not ko

glad to see the responses and no total dismissal of patterson as i expected. if rocky can drag him into a physical war, sure. but patterson was a great mover, boxer and (as said before) puncher.

it's tough, but i have to say that patterson cuts him, hurts him and leads clearly on cards going into the 12th where marciano pulls out one last great win and takes it to the rabbit.

    Rocky KO 14

Patterson would make Rocky look good, far better than the boxer types Marciano met, even a Rocky in 1956. Young Patterson didn't use the kind of mobility he did in his later career. He would be bobbing and weaving and coming AT Marciano just like he had against Liston. That's a no-no. Patterson speed makes him look good early against the 33 year old Rock but eventually he'll get waded down. Rocky by KO inside 5 rounds.

  15. :think i think that floyd patterson in 1956 was better than charles, walcoot, old louis and archie moore when they faced rocky. if patterson had good chin , i would pick patterson even against prime rocky. patterson was a mini tyson. patterson had great defense, great skill, good footwork, good hitting power, he was accurate, more accurate than rocky, and he had heart. but the facts are that patterson didn“t have great chin, i think that rocky might ko him in the first fight(like he lost against ingo), but floyd would beat him by tko or ud in the rematch.
