To be honest, I think there would be a stylistic dynamic working against Patterson, and Marciano would not have slipped enough to make the difference.

I think Marciano's days would be numbered around 1956, and numbered to verry few, but my hunch is that sombody other than Patterson would have closed the deal.

The Marciano that fought Moore would destroy Patterson ... Floyd was no stick and move boxer like Ali , he liked to use his blazing speed to trade and he'd do fine till he was hit .. I don't see it going five rounds unless Marciano aged overnight .. just a bad match up for Floyd.

Maybe, but it's a styles thing.

Love floyd to bits but he'd get bashed about to much - too brave for his own good and in this fight he'd suffer - depending on the referee the towel might be needed by the corner - I can see him trading with Marciano - and getting his attention no doubt about it - but getting his attention too much - Rock within 8

Even a 33 year old Marciano was a step up above Ingemar Johansson who flattened patterson 10 times in 3 fights.... Floyd simply can't handle the punches of an ATG puncher. He can't. Eventually old Rocky will get to him. Floyd is going to stand right in front of rocky, how long is that going to last? Sure, his speed, combinations, and youthfulness will allow him to give rocky problems..but once again, floyd is going to be standing in target range for 15 rounds against a stronger more experienced ATG undefeated heavyweight champion. I like rocky by 9-10 rounds. I am a lot more confident in rocky taking floyd's best stuff, then vise versa.

A 1952 Rocky Marciano? Floyd gets destroyed.

Patty would probably have out-boxed a slower but more stronger Marciano in the summer or fall of 1956 had Marciano stayed on with his career... In my book, Marciano retired just at the right time... 'Nuff said....

Seriously bad match-up for Floyd and that is why Cus kept him clear of Rocky. I think this is a fight I would be confident to pick Marciano by KO, he hit too hard and too often for Floyd

Yes...as big a fan as I am of Floyd, Marciano would have made it 50-0 if they fought. A 10 round ko would happen.

Rocky gets to him and scores the KO in the later rounds after being behind on the cards.

But Floyd wins the rematch by UD or TKO.

Yes, but we cannot be so sure of what Marciano had left in his body by mid-'56... After all, Marciano had two struggles with "Cockell and Moore" in '55... You know what I'm saying?

There seems to be an assumption by many here, that if Marciano stays to the bitter end, he either looses to Patterson or Liston.

I dont think that either of these outcomes is the most likley scenario of his demise.

Again, Marciano got out of boxing when he felt he couldn't do it at the world class level anymore... 1956 was the year he had very little gas left in his tank... He was smart to hang the gloves up and move onward in life... The late 1950s would've gotten ugly for Marciano had he stuck around...

The 2 bouts mention were not relly struggles.

Cockell one 1 mere round of the 9 and have taken a pretty bad beating in the process. Had Cockell just roll over in round 4 or 5, we would not be calling it a struggle. It was relly a fight to see how much Cockell can take, and not much on him winning the fight.

As for Moore, again, outside of the knockdown, I think Marciano control the fight, and pretty much beat Moore down.

I think he gets smoked by Liston to be honest.
Espescially since Rocky would be very faded by now
