Let's assume Floyd Patterson would replace Rocky Marciano and would fight all of Rocky's bouts chronologically. It's just a thought experiment. Of course, Floyd Patterson started his pro career as a LHW. But anyway, just considering his time as a heavyweight. Obviously, his trainer would be Cus D'Amato and not Charley Goldman.

Do you think his record would also be 49-0 in the end? What are his chances?

Patterson loses to Louis and Louis gets the title shot against Walcott, their 3rd encounter for the title?

That's an interesting one. You think Louis had enough left?

Joe Louis was on a winning streak, highly ranked, and I'm thinking there would be some intimidation factors present in that match up, so, yes, I think Louis had a decent chance against Floyd at that point. Louis would have been 25-30 pounds heavier than Floyd, and would have probably been the betting favorite before the fight. He would have had to get to Floyd early, which was certainly a possibility. If the fight went past 6 or 7 rounds, Joe would have certainly been in trouble. A lot would have depended on how Floyd reacted to being in the ring with a legend, who outweighed him considerably, and came into the ring as the favorite.

Floyd Patterson actually started his career weighing in the 160's range so by modern standard he would of been a super middleweight. In any case if Patterson would of fought Marciano's opponents at the same age they fought Marciano he would of beaten them all.

Anyway, both fighters were heavyweights in their respective times and had the same weight limit (175 lbs).

Great which has nothing to do with the point being made. Somebody said Floyd Patterson started his career at light heavyweight. I explained he started his career at Super middleweight.

What is this for a nonsense debate? He started as a LHW in his respective time. But it has nothing to do with the topic.

Great story. He started at 160 which isn't a light heavyweight by modern standards and you get ignored. Blocked.

Walcott would possible stop him, who I rate higher than Johansson (and maybe Patterson himself).

Can't see that either, Louis was gone and had nothing but a jab left. Patterson could certainly beat the versions of Walcott , Charles and Moore that Marciano beat .and the rest of Rock's opponents weren't all that. Floyd could absolutely pull it off going undefeated if he did exactly what Marciano did. Retire before Charles Sonny Liston arrives on the scene.

Charles and Walcott of the first Rocky fights would have been problematical, and old Archie might have been able to keep Floyd down where he failed with Rocky.

Yes, I would favour him against Archie Moore, because of his youth and speed advantage. Anyway, Moore was a great fighter and puncher and would be pretty dangerous. Somewhere I read something that Moore wasn't in good shape when he fought Patterson due to private issues. Maybe the version of Moore that fought Marciano would be way tougher for Patterson...but who knows...
