Lyle was no Liston but he is a tough match-up for Patterson still. I would like to have seen Patterson against Cleveland Williams in his prime to evaluate how he would do against a lesser big man than Liston. He showed in his late career that he could outbox the big guys though. Maybe he can do that to Lyle here.

He can't afford to get careless for a moment.

Good Lord another Ron Lyle thread, Patterson takes this, besides his size disadvantage, he is just the better and more skilled fighter

patterson got past bonnavena and the best version of chuvalo and did well against quarry (who chuvalo KOd) and ellis.

I have to go with patterson. but lyle has a punchers chance..

If he's carefull, and in the right frame of mind, Floyd takes this by UD, though I could see Ron putting down Floyd a time or two.

It's the Lyle over-rated period, Floyd boxes his ears off, hurts him and wins every round.

This would be a very good fight IMHO, regardless of the recent hipster Lyle trend taking place....

Patterson should be able to take a clear decision, but as has been hinted at above a few times, he would need to be very careful throughout the whole fight.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say Patterson wins a unanimous decision. He better be careful though...

If his "fragile" chin can go the distance with (and win against) Quarry, Ringo, Chuvalo, and Ellis, he takes Lyle the distance too.

Patterson stood a good chance of losing to anyone who could knock him down- that was anyone who could hit him.

I take any decent puncher you can name to beat Patterson.

If you believe Lyle is overrated then why do you have overrated Marcinao as a picture ? No fighter is more overrated than Marciano. Lyle if anything is underrated. He started his career at a late age and in consecutive fights he fought Shavers, Ali, and Foreman. He beat Shavers, had Ali beat until the quick stoppage and did much better against Foreman than Frazier or Norton.

Most likely Patterson would fear Lyle like he feared Liston and would get knocked out. Kind of funny how people will say Lyle is overrated too but Liston isn't. I guess beating a blown up glass chin light heavyweight like Patterson, A highly ovrrated unskilled Cleveland Williams makes you great.

If Lyle fought Liston he would win. Liston had a bully mentallity. Liston may thought he was tough by Lyle went to prison for murder. Lyle didn't fear Foreman and he wouldn't fear Liston and would stop him.
