I love both these fighters and feel that it might be a good match.. but I have to favor Patterson to win. He had extremely fast hands to match Jones speed and a fair amount of skill and power as well. He was also well accustomed to taking on heavyweights and elite ones at that.

I think this may end with a knockout win for Floyd in the late rounds

Roy would do better against Patterson at catchweight or even coming in as a light heavyweight. Floyd could still weigh 200, Roy 170-175 and I’d give it to Roy hands down.

However at Heavyweight when he fought Ruiz, Jones jr was hittable and Floyd could put punches together like no one else.

Floyd by knock out at Heavy.

    I don't think Floyd ever weighed 200. I don't recall Roy's weight before walk-in. I'm guessing there wasn't too much difference.

That said, I feel Roy's footwork would win this, that he would position himself faster for his blistering lead and counter shots. But I'm not sold on this... even as it's coming out of my keyboard.

Poor Roy! I think the heavyweight version of Roy isn't either fast enough, and durable enough to perform the hit and run style he used vs Ruiz. And if Patterson can catch him, he won't survive. Thats what it comes to my mind for the 2003 HW version of Roy.
But when it comes to the 94-98 version of Roy at 170-180 pounds catchweight...i think he could have the edge over Floyd.

I don't remember Floyd ever weighing close to 200, am I wrong here?

There are bigger, bigger punching heavies i'd happily take Roy over but Patterson is a disaster for him. Very fast, but also very sudden. Very good at suddenly covering the space. Not so nice for Roy. I'd like seeing him match his jab with Floyd though, like he did against Ruiz, that would be an exciting, exciting moment in the fight.

    I take Floyd.

I think Floyd came in around 200 pounds a couple times in the 60's.

Anyway, IMHO, despite Roy's speed, he would be no match for Patterson at Heavyweight. Floyd would be after him hard, and he would get him.
