Interesting matchup on which I am undecided . Floyd was never really outboxed ,but Usyk would something new to him.
Usyk has a better more active guard than Patterson had and has a big height advantage that could come into play too, I pick Usyk his punching is more creative despite Paterson`s amazing hand speed and deadly hooks.
I lean towards usyk. I feel patterson presents problems early handspeed and power . but i dont know if he could hold up
I don’t think Usyk fought anyone as good as Patterson yet although some nice competition. Patterson flight a lot of really good boxers and had close matches w most of them. Would be an interesting matchup and one I wouldn’t bet on.
Patterson fought one southpaw, Vic Brown who was 23-18 at the time, and Patterson won a 10 round decision. This was prior to Patterson fighting Bonavena and Ali the second time. Brown had been knocked out by Tony Doyle less than a year before the Patterson fight. I've never seen Patterson on video where he looks particularly impressive. I know that on message boards Patterson is supposed to be one of the quickest heavyweights, but I've never seen the evidence on video. I do remember that Patterson looked much smaller than Ali. Against Usyk he'd have the same size disadvantage plus he'd be fighting a quick, agile southpaw. I don't think Patterson would even be competitive.
Tony Bellew, 35 years old and in his last fight, was outpointing Usyk for several rounds, but Patterson wouldn't be competitive. Makes sense.
