Oscar De La Hoya is predicting that the dec. 8 fight will make about 60% of the Oscar-Mayweather fight which is about 1.5 million buys. Can this fight make so high numbers? Can any fight without Oscar's name cross the 1 million mark in these days?

That's a good question. The 24/7 is a HUGE hype. While the Cotto-Mosley fight was expected to be FAR MORE DRAMATIC than this one (and it turned out to be a dramatic one), with the former P4P king superstar and the new PR sensation it did appx. 400.000 buys, according to Arum (but there was no official confirmation, so that can be + or - 20-30.000 buys). That's not THAT big given that two HUGE names were in the ring.

So can P4P king and #1 american fighter and UK numero uno fighter make 1.5 million? I think that even with the 500.000 buy worthy 24/7 hype itt will still do less than a million, about 800.000. It's jut a prediction. But I see no way that this can be so dramatic at HBO. It can be a far more entertaining fight tham the Oscar-Floyd, but 1.5 million is a fairy tale in my book.

WHAT IS YOUR PREDICTION ON THE NUMBERS?

indeed, and its thanks to the contender that we have it - it showed how seeing boxers outside the ring can promote and increase the value of what they do inside it. It was a smart move to do a 'contender-esque show' to bump up the PPV numbers. I wish they did it for all the big fights

Somewhere in the one million mark. A lot of people will buy the fight in USA and a shitload of people will buy it in the UK i presume.

I actually think 1 million buys is doable for this fight.

With the PPV here and overseas - the help of 24/7 - Dancing with the stars - Golden Boy Promotions - Big Name Fighters - and it being the end of the year - I think it'll do pretty good.

This has been a great year for boxing - Mayweather has become a household name - even to the least casual fight fan. So it should do over 1 million.

True, I even ask a British/American(my customer) who's planning to visit Manchester about Hatton & he doesn't even know who hatton was. Hatton hasn't have any PPV yet in the US. Outside of DLH, PBF tops 360K PPV buys. The 2M who saw DLH-PBF were mostly felt robbed of their hard earned money. At work I ask my all customers if they enjoy PBF-DLH, nobody have the possitive response. 24/7 helps coz everyone wants to see PBF lose. Even my relatives who normally order PPVs skipping this one. My cousin is ordering this, but we are one of those diehards included in the 350-400K regular PPV buyers. I'm trying to get feedback from my customer & I don't see the same Hype as the DLH fight. 450-500 buys for me. I'll be surprise if it get passed the 700K mark.

sky are expecting 400'000 buys in britain alone for a fight that starts here at 4am.

i read de la hoya estimating 1.5m just in american buys.

i hate what PPV has done to the sport.

hatton v mayweather should really have 20 to 30 million americans watching it instead of the paltry numbers ppv brings in.

ppv means boxing becomes a hardcore minority sport, yet the contender shows that the fans are out there given the chance.

no different in the uk with warren who would sell his tv rights to the shopping channel if they offerd him more money.

only germany shows live boxing and there big fights live on the main broadcasting channels free to air, and it must be financially feasible given that they outbid american promoters time and time again.

just wish cbs/abc/bbc/itv would fund boxing the way they throw money at other mainstream sports.

unrealistic i know but i remember when this was the case and boxing in the uk and usa was huge , people like mancini were everyday superstars ,known and recognised throughout america .

20-30 million watching Hatton/Mayweather!? This isn't the superbowl.
