Probably the half a millenium of slavery, if I had to guess. Oh, and the fact that there are still plenty of people alive today who had water hoses and dogs turned on them because they wanted to vote. And because the justice system seems overwhelmingly interested in punishing crimes like petty drug possession that hit black communities, much harder than, say, white collar crime, or arresting college kids for snorting rips, or whatever. Or because he's right and the NBA has actually tried to institute rules and dress codes to make the players less thuggish and more friendly to polite (white) society. Or because in large parts of the country black people still face institutional racism in the form of broken school systems, underserved neighborhoods, and lovely things like white people just plain not hiring them because they think the name Tyrone sounds "too ghetto".

Oh, and I'm white, so I guess I don't fit into your neat little box about who chooses to play the race card.

While I agree with this (that's it's all true), the Jewish people have been persecuted and 'hated upon' since damn near the beginning of time....by everybody. My question is, is there a reason they can't or don't pull the race card? Have they ever been able to pull a 'Jew' race card? Does it have to do with them looking 'white' for the most part? Have we all come far enough in today's day and age to say that the Jewish people are now on a level playing field, if not moreso? Is the direct opposite of what has happened to them throughout time happening in today's society (i.e. America's protection of Jerusalem)? This is all facsinating talk I didn't expect to see on my favorite boxing forum. lol

He tried to fight him around 99-2000, and ttried again around 2006 numb nuts. You can't keep chasing a guy who's scared of you. Mayweather had his own career.

Look I'm not going to get into a discussion about who's been duckin who, cause you're obviously an annoying Floyd fan.

My point is Floyd hasn't been fighting for credit for a long time. He's not interested in cleaning out any divisions or fighting big names for his legacy. If there was more money in another fight, Floyd would not be taking this.

problem is, its not these people who constantly cry about racism. its the young blacks who are too lazy to do the work required to succeed that blame their skin color for the failures in their lives. i think asians and jews get far more **** slung at them than blacks but who cries the loudest? im not saying all blacks, just the bottom of the barrel.
it has nothing to do with color. ive dealt with successfull people of all races and they are respected as equals because they present themselves as equals and not as victims too weak to overcome the fact that some ignorant ass called them the n word. funny how african blacks and hispanic blacks dont live their lives blaming someone else for lack of opportunity. its just the black equivalent of the ignorant redneck or the barrio cholo who cant see outside their little one color world.

Without getting too far afield, since this is a boxing site, Jewish persecution has traditionally been ad-hoc and sporadic. There would be flare ups due to a particular ruler or temporary social circumstances, and then things would die down for a while. Jewish identity also has deep cultural roots so there was a large diaspora for Jewish families to rely on if the needed to pick up and move, and a deep cultural heritage to provide support during harder times. The africans who were brought over as slaves were literally robbed of their cultural heritage. They were not allowed to read, their shared time was limited, their customs forcibly erased...it's no wonder they invented an identity, later on, that was fundamentally based on being "not white".

And, of course, Jewish persecution was never institutionalized to nearly the degree that Slavery institutionalized racism in this country. Centuries of legally entrenched persecution makes a far deeper dent on a people already reeling from being stolen from their homes, dropped in an unforgiving new place, and denied the comforts of their own history or culture.

And, as you mention, Jews are "almost white" and certainly much less alien seeming. Though if you want to talk about playing the race card I think demanding your own country in the place where your ancestors lived 6000 years ago, despite other people actually living in that place now, is probably the race card to trump all race cards.

At the same time recent immigrants like african blacks and hispanic blacks didn't grow up with parents or grandparents who actually lived through the civil rights era. They don't grow up in the ghettos that were created by the failure of reconstruction. And because of their immigrant status (they are Ghanan, or Haitian, or South African, not "African American") they don't get painted with the same stereotypical brush that native third or fourth generation blacks do: lazy, drug addicted, welfare bred, criminal, etc. Even something as blunt as racism is often pointed and has as much to do with culture and expectation as the actual color of a person's skin.

The fact is, if you are a black kid in this country, and you are born poor, the deck is stacked against you far more than any other group. It's not inescapable, and it's not solely the fault of a great white conspiracy because in some respects "black culture" (I hate to say it like that, but you know what I mean) does itself no favors, but the deck is absolutely stacked against you. I can imagine that breeds a lot of anger. Life isn't fair for anyone, but it's a lot more unfair for some than for others.
