the deck is stacked against any person born poor. i find asians %agewise, succeed far more often with the same barriers blacks face. saying blacks fail today because their great granparents were slaves is almost like saying white southerners fail today because their great grandparents got their slaves taken away from them. it exists mostly in your head. sure there is racism, always has been and always will be. ignorance will never be overcome by everybody but any black kid in america has 10 times the opportunity to succeed than 90% of the children of the rest of the world yet all these less priviledged kids from other countries still come here and succeed. why?
you are correct in saying that popular black culture is the biggest reason for this self perpetuating stereotype. you want to be different but dont want to be treated different. grow up. im a racist because i dont want my company represented by a kid with his pants hanging halfway off his ass or a virgin mary tattoo on his neck? you want the rules to change to accommodate you? **** you.
i dont care if you want to lead a scrub life. just dont cry to me when others dont want to share that life with you.

There is no question that the Jews have been "hated on" for long periods of time but you must remember that

    1. The Jews unlike the blacks came into this country on their own accord much the majority of immigrants who came in search of a better life or better opportunities.

    2. Looking white does help significantly and that applies to the days of Jim Crow where they would be allowed places that "colored people" would be precluded from. Its not the end all though because there are Jews who are prosecuted just because they are Jews. I wouldn't exactly say that they get a clean pass because they go through **** but not in the same manner that Black Americans have historically been treated.

    3. Israel also happens to be considered one of America's staunchest Allies given by the Pro-Israeli stance that has been part of US Foreign Policy for the past few Decades.

    3. The Jews, like the Italians and the Irish and the Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, etc. all have a similarity in terms of having a subculture. When they came to America, like most immigrants they were able to establish communities and lift themselves up because they share a commonality that goes beyond the color of their skin. Indians and Pakistani's have a similar skin color but they are not exactly amicable. With Black Americans sharing a skin color and an ugly past wasn't enough of a bond to build and uplift their own in the same manner that most immigrant groups did.

Its a lack of identity that has stagnated Black America. For instance, look at Blacks that migrated (whether its 1st or 2nd Generation) from the Caribbean or West Africa or East Africa for that matter. The household is different from the Black American households to the extent that their value system and traditions derive from from the old country. There are cultural differences that are largely ignored by mainstream America. For most Black Americans that cannot pinpoint their country of origin their values are generic but are geographically driven, making them a very diverse group of people bunched into a contrived "black culture."

Now for those that are descendants of slaves, sons or grandsons of those who lived in Jim Crow. Or hell even the old folks that lived in America Prior to the Civil Rights Movement where a black man can be killed for looking at a white girl those are things that are hard to easily shake. Simply put the Current American President on the day he was born during a time when Jim Crow laws were in effect.

Now, racism is still alive. It didn't die out or fade away it still exists. So while there may be some Black people or others who use the race card at every opportunity whether or not its legitimate, there are others who based on past experiences call a spade a spade.

    Anyways as for the OP

I think there will be a contingency of people who won't give Floyd his respect should he win the fight. They'll call Mosley old and shot, etc.
I think Mosley is still a top tier fighter and whoever wins the fight deserves the utmost respect.

    Excuses.

While there are valid racial prejudices in any country, including America, African-Americans have disproportionally blamed racism for all the problems.

First of all, immigrant Africans come here in the US with FAR lower in the economic ladder. Dirt poor in America is like upper middle class in Africa.

And that is BS about not getting painted on with the other stereotypes. Does race matter or does it not? If they don't get stereotyped then you just contradicted yourself since it means they are of the black race WITHOUT the stereotypes - thus no racism.

Second, they do get shitted on - INCLUDING by black Americans themselves. Even in predominantly black neighborhood like Harlem and areas in the Bronx, African Americans are the one committing crimes over their African immigrant counterparts (mugging, robbery, etc).

Being poor, yes the card is ALWAYS stacked against you. That is how nature works - and human are not above that simple biological concept. But 'black kids', are not so far removed from other minorties in terms of disadvantages. Consider this....
African immigrants in the US have the HIGHEST education level than any OTHER major immigrants in the US - even above the STEREOTYPED Asians. Look it up. They also socio-economically do better than their African-American counterparts.

Stop pulling the race card everytime something does not go your way. If you take up self responsobility instead of 100% race thing, we all be better off. But no. RACE, RACE, RACE. Damn, people voted for a crack head Marion Barry and yet race card is pulled. All other race have been able to pull themselves, including those that are racially black (African immigrants). Join the club.

And no I am not white.

Its pretty difficult explain to a self proclaimed racist that black stereo types do not define Blacks in America.

I'm not sure if I should really dignify this post with a response primarily because from what I just read its people like you that contribute to the stagnation of Blacks in America. If people in Power have your mentality in America then its easy to see why Black Americans seem to be relegated. You have to be 3 times as good as your counterpart to make it.

And what makes you think that these immigrants that come here from abroad and make something of themselves are less privileged? Most of the time it is because they come from privileged families with means to bring them to America that they are able to and they succeed as a result. You're not going to have some poor Nigerian kid, Indian kid or poor Chinese kid that is coming to America and through hard work and determination they succeed. The odds simply don't favor it.

And who wants to be different, but doesn't want to be treated different? I'm not sure what you're trying to convey here?

The whole hanging pants below the waist was brought to mainstream by Pop culture. This drives America's youth and that isn't simply limited to Black Youth its absorbed by all races. The fact that Hip Hop and Rap has for the past 2 decades made significant strides in Mainstream America has influenced how blacks and whites, and Asians and Hispanic youth dress. It shouldn't shape your opinions of them.

Look I don't want to waste my time or yours for that matter further commenting on this. I think its a shame people share your mentality to the extend that they can call themselves racist.

This is the typical response from white people who get mad at the truth. The fact is their are plenty of educated, sucessful african americans who are hard working people, that are tyring to overcome the disrcrimination that exist in this country. It not becasue of laziness, its BECAUSE RACISM IS WRONG! Look that the Board of directors for the NAACP, and organization devoted to fighting discrimination against people of color.

Julian Bond-Graduate of Morehouse College. /Elected to the georgia House of Representatives./Distinguished Professsor at American University, and a history professor at the University of Virginia.

Benjamin Todd Jealous- B.S. Political Science from Columbia University./ Rhodes Scholar who earned his Maters in comparative social research from Oxford University one of the top 5 universities in the world.

Jesse Turner Jr.- B.S. Mathematics and M.B.A. in accounting and Finaance from the University of Chicago.

I myself and currently a 2L in law school. But I guess we're all those too lazy, uneducated people, you're talking about who are blaming are problems on racism because we're too lazy to work.

B.S. The fact is racism is a huge issue, and depsite that fact the many black people have and will continue to rise above it doesn't change the fact that it goes on everyday in this country and Im going to keep addressing it becasue it's alive and well and its not right..

huh, strangely enough I wasn't surprised when I went to this thread expecting discussions on Mosley and Mayweather but getting some racial politics instead...
