Floyd Mayweather Sr.- "Let me tell you something man, a lot of success my son has had is because he didn't change with times. My son never went and got all these conditioning coaches and all this ****, man. Floyd work hard, he puts the work in when he's in the gym, and he does his road work. His training is oldschool; he spars. These guys today flipping tires and cutting trees and ****, man, come on man. That **** don't have nothing to do with boxing. So it won't change what we are doing at all, man. Not one bit"

I agree with Floyd Sr and I read an article a while back with Kevin Rooney and he also said the best way to 'condition' a fighter is road work and what he called 'hard' sparring. If you watch HBO 24/7 Mayweather puts in the hard sparring and busts up his sparring partners.

These 'conditioning' coaches have ruined the sport ever notice most the fighters that use them fade late in fights anyway?

Marciano, Louis, and Ali didn't need a conditioning coach.

Floyd SR is always entertaining - Floyd never relied on power or the ability to bully. All his ability stems from his boxing skills, his boxing intelligence of how to avoid getting hit and timing and accuracy of when he throws.

So it's no surprise but a focus on stamina might be more of an issue as he gets older fighting younger guys

All Floyd has to do is keep his private contract USADA failed drug tests out of the public domain.

I definitely dont agree. Road work will always have its place, especially in combat sports, but times have changed, fighters have changed, science has evolved, etc .... Just becuase Lil Floyd doesnt use a S&C Coach doesnt mean he wouldnt benefit from one. Dont get me wrong, if it isnt broke, dont fix it. I am just saying Floyd Senior does have a tendency to talk out his a-- sometimes. I recently seen Lil Floyd on you tube hitting tires with sledge hammers. But just my thoughts.

Floyd Sr. is a bit contradictory here (As usual). In that, he had Lil' Floyd cutting wood as a part of his conditioning when he was young. But then again, cutting wood is not new school when it comes to conditioning. It's very much old school. It's really all a sledgehammer/big tire simulates, without the wood chips.

I personally feel different strokes for different folks. Pure hard work works, however you pretty it up, is completely dependent to the individual.

Another thing, most fighters dont put in the work Floyd puts in either. I truly admire his work ethic, probaly just as much as his boxing skills. I mean he regularly trains 3 times day in training camp. If other fighters are willing to put that work in and literally deidcate their whole life to that type of training, then I say go for it.

With all that being said, he trains like that but that was instiled in him. If he grew up in the 2000's and not the 80's he probaly would work just as hard but more efficiently. If Floyd does ever get old in the ring, I bet it would be from all the wear and tear of his training not his actual fights.

Whereas someone like Broner, who looks up to Floyd, he still is from the new generation. I have seen photos of him lifting heavy weights (deadlifting and things like that) and he has one of the highest KO percentages in the sport. So while AB obviously puts in hard work at the gym, I think his new school approach to training allows him to get his work done much quicker than doing just road work and sparring.

I don't think you can compare the two. Certainly not in that way. Broner is a naturally bigger individual than Floyd. Larger musculature and most importantly, he doesn't have brittle hands. Now Floyd has seemed to have solved that problem for the most part. But it was a large reason why Floyd could not punch as hard as he wanted when he was younger and in the middle of his pro career.

Roadwork wont build up your base so you can generate power. Roadwork is for endurance not strength. Sparring is for timing and technique, reflexes, but not strength.
