I remember watching them and an announcer saying how he used to be a puncher although Jones didn't look like one.
Seriously, Thurman buzzed Soto Karass in the first round more than Jones did in 24.

Thurman admittedly hits harder than Mike Jones and Soto Karass was stopped by Rosado and Maidana before he fought Thurman.

Remember what I said about Mike earlier. Naturally, he has a lot of power. He just needs to fix his technique and balance. Thomas Hearns was taught by Steward how to really get leverage on his right hand

Maybe he has a chin issue and decided to adapt his style no to get caught while loading up on his punches, but it didn't work out too well.

no that's not it. The way he throws his right hand is to loop it and lean forward while throwing it which makes him more vulnerable and he has to be closer in order to land it.
If he wanted to protect his chin, he'd throw his right hand straighter and keep his distance like a Thomas Hearns or Wladimir Klitshko. Both of those guys also have a lot of power when they get full extension on their punch

There must be something with him though, and i forgot that he actually looked good against Lujan, at least more impressive than against Karass. (which i think Thurman beat a better version) Being a good few inches taller help but if he had had a few more knockouts, people wouldn't ask "Mike Who ?".

In the rematch, I actually think Mike performed better than Thurman did despite the KO. I could be a little bias though :D
Thurman too me just looked very vulnerable and it seemed like he was getting tired and he got hurt in the first round.

He got chin checked flush then proceeded to win the round. I thought he looked almost perfect. And with the amount of body shots Karass launched on him, we know he can take it there too.

I'm not a fan of Mike Jones or a defender...but Bailey as old and as washed up as he is, still has the power to stop anyone at 147 if he lands flush. Funny how some of these guys like Bailey and Edison Miranda, who are long from being considered a contender, are no longer in the discussion when it comes to P4P punching power.
