Floyd Mayweather Sr. gave Oscar De La Hoya a mixed grade for his performance Saturday in a rout of Steve Forbes in their 12-round fight at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. But Mayweather said that while De La Hoya wasn’t as sharp as he had hoped, he’s still convinced that De La Hoya will be able to defeat his son, Floyd Jr., when they meet Sept. 20 in Las Vegas in the rematch of the richest fight ever. The elder Mayweather didn’t work De La Hoya’s corner for De La Hoya’s split decision loss to Mayweather Jr. last year when he couldn’t come to terms with Golden Boy Promotions on salary. Freddie Roach had the job. But Mayweather Sr. has reached a deal to train De La Hoya for his remaining pro fights and is convinced that De La Hoya can be the first to defeat his unbeaten son.

“Nobody knows Little Floyd like I do, because I’m the one who created him and who gave him all that knowledge,” Mayweather Sr. said of his son, who is ranked first in the Yahoo! Sports poll of the world’s finest boxers. “I know what he’s going to do before he knows it. And I know what it takes to beat him, believe me I do. And Oscar has it. I’m not going to go telling you about it, but I know and Oscar knows that I have the knowledge to give him so he can pull this off.”

Mayweather Sr., who didn’t attend the post-fight news conference Saturday, said he was pleased with De La Hoya’s jab but wants to see him improve his right hand, move his head more and throw more combinations.
And though there were times in the fight that De La Hoya seemed every one of his 35 years, Mayweather Sr. said he believes the Golden Boy can make the necessary adjustments to defeat his son.

“He has to pull the trigger faster when he’s fighting Little Floyd than he did against Stevie, no question about it,” Mayweather Sr. said. “The right hand has to come faster – much faster. But he can do it. I know he can. He really looked good with his jab and that’s going to be a very important punch against my son.”

Part of the selling point of the rematch will be the father vs. son angle. And while Mayweather Sr. made it clear that he has little use for his son any more, he said he won’t be distracted by questions about him, because he said he’s not going to answer them.

He said once training camp begins, he’s going to refuse to discuss his relationship with his son. “My son is a disobedient kid and I’m very disappointed about that,” Mayweather Sr. said. “But I’m going to look at this fight like we’re fighting another opponent. I’m just going to work and I’m going to do my job. That’s it. You can’t make me talk or say something. I have my feelings about him and about who he is, but those feelings are mine and they’re staying in my heart. I don’t have to talk about it just because some reporter wants to ask me about it. I’ll tell anyone who wants to know that Oscar can beat Little Floyd. He almost did it the last time, and that was without me. Now, he’s got me and I have the plan. That’s it.”

I thought this was a pretty interesting interview.. DLH had Roach in his corner the first time, but now Floyd Sr, who knows Floyd better than anyone, is gonna' be in DLH's corner this time.. Do ya'll think this will make a difference? Will DLH come in with a whole different game plan? And no doubt there's some serious **** between Floyd Sr & Floyd Jr..

Floyd Sr. should just have an HBO ppv public spanking of his son instead of this spectacle being orchestrated. He could have his belt in his hand and make rhymes while he beats him.

"Don't call me 'lil Floyd, dad!"

Having "The Plan" and executing "The Plan" are two different things.

If Floyd Sr was in the corner for the first fight it might have made the difference. Too much time has elapsed and Oscar isn't the fighter he used to be. I can't see him being able to execute "The Plan" well enough in the 2nd fight to actually get the win.

You really think Oscar is not the same as he was in their first fight? He may have not looked as impressive as he should have against Forbes, but i think the rematch could be another close one.. What about the layoff factor for Floyd? Do ya'll not think that Floyd will have the slightest bit of rust? I'm not predicting a DLH win or anything, I'm just saying..

Either way, Sr will take credit for Oscar or Floyd's win. Maybe he should have laid off the crack dealing and help guide his son through his career, then he would have a claim. You can tell he is obviously jealous of Floyd's success without him.

I think Oscar has lost at least a step, maybe even two. Two (maybe 3) years ago, Oscar puts a guy like Forbes away in 6 or 7 rounds.

The only way Oscar has a chance of winning this rematch will be if PBF looks at it like it's just a 'money' fight, but Oscar looks at it like it's a 'pride' fight.

Sometimes a guy past his prime can capture it again for one fight, most times he can't.

I'd be curious to know what adjustments Oscar made for Mosley II? I actually thought Oscar won that one, but in the case of PBF I don't know. Oscar should have won their first fight if he just was busier, and this may reflect his tiring problem. Floyd is an accurate fighter, but like Bernard, he picks his shots. He is not busy, but just accurate. If he does not get the knock out a busier fighter could hustle it from him. But it would have to be a BIG hustle.
In regards to Father knowing son, I don't think this is a factor at all. Sr is not fighting junior and junior has been training with Roger for quite a while. Even if Sr has the formula, Oscar has to execute the plan.
Oscar is at his best if he fights to win, and not to knock out his opponent. First fight with PBF, Oscar looked tight and tense. Floyd caught him with accurate shots. Note that Steve Forbes caught Oscar hanging out there with some nice combos, but backed off. PBF is much more accurate, hits harder, and faster.

Considering Floyd's work ethic and the way he study's the game it won't be the same fight Delahoya will be better Floyd will be even more better trust.

This is the Floyd Mayweather everybody has been waiting to see he's going against the man who taught him everything and this is his one and only chance to prove to his dad that he's better than he could ever make him.

He won't lose and he'll make his dad look silly because in reality he taught his son well!!!!
