Will Floyd be the first BLACK boxer to make a treasure trove of cash in the ring, retire, and watch his star continue to grow due to his promotional company? Delahoya has shown the way for this new age...will Mayweather carry the torch forward? People hate his braggodocio style but MAN...this guy takes care of business inside and outside the ring. He's on top of the numbers and wants MONEY!!!! I admire that the most about Mayweather...
Mayweather ****ed up royally in the De La Hoya fight negotiations. I believe he ****ed in the Hatton fight negotiations as well. Hopefully, he has learned from these experiences. If Mayweather wants to be a master business man, he has to learn the business. These experiences may have taught him a lot. The gambling and foolish spending needs to stop as well.
MMMMM...you really thinks so? I think we have seen Floyd morph into a smarter and more responsible adult...his marketing prowess, hard work, discipline, and NO SPOUSE seem to have him set up for success...I know many hate his mouth but this kid is the real deal...in the ring and in business...didn't his promo company manage the tours of Jay Z and Mary J Blige? That's whole different entity...pretty impressive to me!
That Hoya fight probably netted well over $100M. Mayweather only received about $20M. Considering that fight does nowhere near as well as it did without Mayweather, Floyd left a lot of money on the table. Imagine if Floyd had sacrificed some guarenteed money in order to fetch a much larger % of the buys over 1.4 mill. He could've received more than double what he made for that fight. Against Hatton, Hatton supposedly kept all the U.K ppv money. That's a huge blunder. Hatton had never cracked 400k on PPV in the U.K. The U.K ppv record before that fight was around 700k. Mayweather's fight with Hatton did 1.2 mill buys in the U.K. Hatton's fight with Pac did under 400k. Mayweather clearly left a lot of money on the table on that one. He seems to have learned though. He made ton of money against Marquez because he tied most of his compensation to ppv buys. It looks like he did the same for the Mosley fight as well.
(laughin)...He doesn't come off as "thick" as Tyson or Holyfield. Floyd has that hustle about him...being a success is important but NOT being a failure seems to drive him to perfection! I see a lot of young guys in the record and entertainment industry that have that same moxie...also look at how he takes care of himself...We all know he doesnt do drugs or drink or smoke...his workouts or respected in their own right...I think the best is yet to come for Floyd...many "hate" his **** talkin coupled with a defensive posture but this dude is something special...When he was promoting the fight with Mosley, I felt Mosley was taking a backseat to the more special guy...not just fighting but smarter...you know like, "Floyd do your thing to build this fight for us. So we can all get paid!" That is a gift!
taking care of his problems with the IRS is a good start. Hopefully he succeeds with his venture and aims at giving the fans the match ups they want without being too greedy like the current promoters and managers we have.
(nodding my head)...Ohhh okay. It's always good to know wassup. From what I just read, if Floyd beat Shane and fights and beats Pacquiao, he's DEFINITELY going to fight a few more times to perfect his business model!
I disagree...with the long term health issues and the crooked nature of many of the promoters, I think it's a good idea for the fighters to exploit there opportunities as much as possible...sure some fights aren't met but I always look at the fight game as if I was fighting...walk in their shoes but enjoy my meals at night without eating with the sting of a constantly busted interior lip!
Mayweather isn't a dummy. However, sometimes you need to get burnt in order to learn. Everyone gets on him for his slave wages comment. However, I think that's one of the best comments he ever made. That showed me he wasn't simply looking at how much he would be making, but how much he should be making. That's what a good businessman does.
A dude who was in debt to the IRS ALREADY!!!??!?! And had to come back to pay it off!?!?! Yeah.. brilliant. What a goddamn ******.
Boxing is a sport the thrives on the amount of people that watches it. The participants knows the dangers of the sport and should anything happen to them is mainly their responsibility. Factor in that they need to study every contract they get into to protect their interests. Start prioritizing the whims of the fighters before the consumers and you have the perfect ingredient to killing a sport.
