Rather than replicate what castillo did, I would take a look at what Duran did to SRL in the first fight. SRL fought the fight more in the pocket out of choice,I dont think Floyd has that choice anymore. Both Floyd and SRL have a brilliant inside game, especially when it comes to tying up and using all the little tricks(bhop and ward are also masters at this) forearm, holding and hitting on the blindside of the ref etc. This for me has been the difference with everyone who has come close, especially Hatton and Cotto. Duran was happy to tie up and continue fighting and SRL **** himself, you could clearly see by his face in the corner.Floyd has pulled similar faces when someone has gotten to him in the past, its like they are amazed someone is getting to them and for a moment(in floyds case) he doesnt know what to do about it.If Guerrero is to have any success he has to be as good as Duran was in that fight ,and that for me is a huge ask. What do you think? I'm not starting a "who is better debate " just the style of fight. Please be kind, first post.
Floyd is the best at "boxing off the ropes" today, but you're right. He's at his best in the center of the ring. Guerrero will want to make it a nasty one on the inside, but Floyd will back him up to exploit how he sucks going backwards. Guerrero revealed his plan to Floyd when he said toe to toe, but Guerrero is going to be ill prepared to fight going back
Duran and Leonard were both elites. Floyd is the only top fighter there. I do not see the comparison. Guerrero and Ortiz are good but Floyd will always beat them. He needs to fight the best. No one is fooled by handpicking. Remember in Rocky 3 Mickey responds to Rocky after he mentions his title defenses " that was easy! They was handpicked!!" They were good fighters but not like this guy" Talking about Clubber Laing. Only a movie, but it touched on reality 30 years later.
RG does need the fast feet and aggressiveness Roberto had at least, tho he's far behind in Manos De Piedra speed and power, but just as long as he hits hard enough to get Floyd's attention. Iron chin, unrelenting body attack, and Floyd's Achilles heel the RIGHT HOOK surprise him every now and then. Expect to eat alot of shots just to land afew of yours so make them count. Of course RG is elite now he beat a top 147lber worse than anyone before. lmao RG took the best bombs from a top 147lb puncher too. RG featherfisted gtfo with that ****.
This is the exact oppositw of how i see the fight going. Guerrero can fight pretty well going backwards. Hes not going to go in there and go to-to-toe and fight with emotion like Ortiz or Hatton. Hes gonna have success boxing as Floyd tries to walk him down. Then youll see some ambush fighting, rough Floyd up inside throwing 5, 6 punch combinations. Then back to boxing keeping Floyd guessing and hesitant of what to expect next. Guerrero will control the pace as Floyd attempts to get off first.
I don't think Guerrero has what it takes either.I think Canelo would have to do a similar thing to have success but he is obviously stronger and more capable of executing a strong inside fight, but he has not yet been forced to do so and for me,his defence is questionable although obviously a great talent.Trout against floyd would be an altogether different fight and strategy.Trout beats Canelo for my money but thats another thread LOL
Roberto Duran seems to think this will be a similar fight when him and Leonard fought. Roberto Duran - Boxing Hall of Fame Legend "I think its a great fight. It reminds me a lot of my fight with Sugar Ray Leonard when I moved up from lightweight to welterweight and beat him. You have a fast American fighter against a bruising Latin fighter.* Styles make fights and this is a very interesting match-up. I feel that Robert will pull off the upset in Las Vegas and I must be there to see it. Guerrero by unanimous decision." The only similarities between Mayweather and Leonard is speed, and the only similarities between Guerrero and Duran is, they are both of Latin decent. No disrespect to any of the four
