I really don't care about this fight anymore, I'd watch it if it ever happens but, it's too far past due...Either side has too many built in excuses at this point, not the least of which is the proverbial 'past-prime'...I don't know that it truly answers all the arguments anymore, not that it ever would but, it would answer a lot more a few years back... I'm noticing the number of threads on the subject have decreased significantly...Is it just me, or is this fight beginning to decrease in its value?
no it's not as big imo, or at least it shouldnt be. This fight should have happened 2-3 years ago when both guys were looking at their best.
I would say it is definitely bigger. It's the only thing anyone talks about. Even people who have never watched boxing talk about it. Are both fighters at their physical best? No and yet they still remain the top two names in boxing. This fight is going to shatter PPV buys and basically every other record.
I think it has been waning a bit. They should have fought right after Pacquiao beat Cotto. That was when it was at its peak, but, I think both fighters have a chance to really rejuvenate a lot of life back in the fight. They both have fights where it really has the potential to be exciting. Mayweather has Ortiz and Pacquiao has Marquez for the 3rd time. Both Ortiz and JMM are no pushovers and if they get by them, I think the fight will really capture everybody's imagination just like after Pacquiao disposed of Cotto. If both win, they need to fight each other straight away. I think that will get everybody pumped at them fighting once again.
I truly want both guys to be at their best if it happens, but I don't know that is possible now...Both sides have disappointed me on this one...
Agreed it still sets ppv records but, no longer shatters them in my book...As another poster pointed out though, a lot rides on their performances in their next fights...
I think it will be even bigger... the anticipation from mainstream fans has only grown. Maybe it's died a tad with hardcore fans, but what really matters, boxing isn't what it used to be. Look at Lewis-Tyson, numbers were huge even though us hardcore fans knew it was a mismatch by then. here's a small hint of what the result of this poll may be (and I stress small, but result is clear) http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323413
They will both have to have impressive outings in the next fight to get the buzz going again with casual fans, imo. Of course it is a mega fight...but it was much more talked about then than it is now.
