A follow on from the thread that quoted the article that pitted Floyd against 10 great welters.

IMO Floyd just hasnt looked as awesome at 147...So I thought Id toss up some names that would be fairer matchups to look at.

    vs Curtis Cokes

    vs Don Curry

    vs John H Stracey

    vs Buddy McGirt

    vs Ralph Dupas

    vs Milton McCrory

    vs Johnny Bratton

    vs Ike Quartey

    vs Ricardo Mayorga

    vs Gil Turner

Probably an argument for Floyd winning a lot, maybe most of those fights...but Id love to hear the argument if possible.

I'd favor him over Stracey, Turner, and Mayorga only. You could argue Bratton as well, but that would be a risky fight for Floyd, IMO. If given the choice I'd stil probably take Floyd in the modern era.

You don't think Floyd Mayweather could beat Curits Cokes?

Definitely not, given Cokes's physical advantages combined with his rangy sharp-shooting technical skills. I'd say Cokes was probably better than someone like Quartey, even.

Maybe he is better than Quartey, but he isn't faster than Floyd. I don't see him out counter-punching Mayweather and I don't see him bringing the right type of pressure. You seem very confident about your pick, but i'd back Floyd in that one.

I don't think he'd need to pressure. He'd be fine playing Floyd's game, and if Floyd tried to up the anty and press the pace, he'd beat him up on the inside. I think a lot higher of his wins over Rodriguez than I do of Floyd's entire career to be honest.

Yeah, I agree with you on Rodriguez, I just don't think that the styles favour Curits here. I don't like the idea of his out-countering Money. I think he'd drop a boring decision more times than not.

I dont know about the Cokes fight...I think Floyd could beat him.

But Ive been watching a bit of Cokes lately and he could be a bit of a badarse...The finish of the Pavilla fight is pretty impressive. The expression on his face looked like a terminator as he beat him on the inside and outside, hardly missing a step in the knockout round.

My point really is Cokes wasnt just a patient counter puncher and could turn boxer-puncher pretty quickly when he needed to.
By reports he did the name when Luddick butted him...preceded to go after and punish him.

I think that in the very least would really give Floyd something to think about...because though Money could probably outbox him with some difficulty..I dont know about handling a fired up Curtis on the inside.
