Tsk tsk, and I thought you were a hardcore boxing fan that knew everything about boxing...The contracted weight was 144, and there was a $300,000 penalty for every lb over it, hence why Floyd paid JMM $600,000. Before his fight with Floyd, JMM beat Juan Diaz for the lightweight title. Last I checked, LW was at 130 Being next a smaller fighter is besides the point. Watch the fight and listen to the commentary. I believe it was Merchant who said Floyd looks like a MW. I think they can judge how big Floyd is from fight to fight granted they've seen him fight up close more times than anyone else in the world. Is that enough logic for you? Because I haven't seen any from you yet.
Marquez was able to control emmanuel's output. emmanuel usually averages 68 punches per a round, but Marquez forced it down to 53 average during their 24 shared rounds. I see Floyd, who has superior handspeed, power, reflexes, and timing to Marquez, cutting it down to 45ish a round. Morales and Marquez, who aren't even as fast as Floyd, didn't even need to box off the backfoot. There's a noticeable speed difference between present Floyd and pre-retirement Floyd, but he still has his defense to cover his AZZ. The angle advantages of being a southpaw are gone in the pocket, since the shoulders are usually squared at that range. Lots of southpaws don't ever bother to learn how to fight on the inside, since their advantage requires some space. Floyd knows this, and that's why he fought in the pocket against southpaws Corley and Judah. emmanuel isn't a good inside fighter, requires space to get off, doesn't know how to throw short punches, and is susceptible to bodyshots. Morales and Marquez were able to hurt emmanuel multiple times with their body shots, so Black Mamba and Joy Sr will instruct Floyd to work there. emmanuel has the best set of legs in boxing, no homo, so hitting him there slows him down.
I'm not going to call you a liar because judging from your answers, you just might not know lol... Google GBP's account of the contracted weight for the fight, and check the underlined, and get back to me.
Wikipedia article, here's the link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Mayweather_vs._Juan_Manuel_Marquez Scroll down to the bottom of the details section where it's quoted.... "Juan Manuel Márquez made a guaranteed $3.2 million, as well as an additional $600,000 due to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. coming in two pounds over the 144 lbs weight limit. Floyd Mayweather earned $10.0 million." Nallege, I'm really trying to have a good hearty debate with you since I thought you were a true boxing fan, but it's just not working. You are too dense.
Wikipedia lol... You didn't even post the article from GBP's on this issue lol... The fight was always promoted as a ww fight. What is it that you don't get lol...
stfu you festering vagina. you are still regarded as the worst poster on esb by anyone who matters and you still fool yourself into thinking you are somebody around here, lol. there isnt one ******* here who is further detached from reality than your inferiority complex having floyd apologist ass. the safest bet in boxing is to contradict your ignorant skidmarked ass.
Mayweather makes weight, pays penalty By Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports Sep 18, 9:56 pm EDT ShareretweetEmailPrintLAS VEGAS – Floyd Mayweather Jr. made the contracted weight of 147 pounds for his HBO Pay-Per-View fight on Saturday with Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. But when Mayweather weighed 146 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in, he was forced to pay a six-figure penalty to Marquez for coming in at more than 144 pounds, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said. More From Kevin IoleIs Mosley still 'Sugar' sweet? Sep 15, 2010 King: Floyd a product of his surroundings Sep 14, 2010 Schaefer said the contract the fighters signed in May was for the bout to be at a limit of 147 pounds. But in that contract, each man agreed to a substantial penalty clause for every pound, or fraction thereof, more than 144. Mayweather has fought at welterweight since 2005, but Marquez never has and only has fought three times at more than 130. He weighed 134 in a Dec. 9, 1996, bout against Rodrigo Valenzuela. He was 135 when he stopped Joel Casamayor on Sept. 13, 2008, and was 134 when he stopped Juan Diaz on Feb. 28. On Friday, Marquez weighed 142. There never was any question whether Marquez could make the weight. It has been more than four years since Mayweather weighed less than 146. “There were no surprises,” Schaefer said. “The contract the fighters signed for the fight so many months ago called it a welterweight fight. But there was a stipulation that there would be a penalty for weighing over 144. “Floyd’s team informed us today that he would not be able to make 144, and because of that, there was a substantial penalty. If he would have been 147, it would have been even bigger.” Thus, Mayweather was in the odd position Friday of making the contracted weight but still paying a penalty. If either man had weighed in excess of 147, he would have been required to sweat off the excess weight to reach 147 exactly. That is not normally the case unless a fight is for a championship, which Saturday’s fight is not. Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, said there was no issue with the weight from a commission standpoint. Kizer said he went to Marquez’s locker room prior to the weigh-in and asked him if he was aware that Mayweather would weigh more than 144. Kizer said Marquez told him he had no problem with it. Mayweather also arrived at the MGM Grand about an hour later than the reporting time given to him by the commission. Kevin Iole covers boxing and mixed martial arts for Yahoo! Sports. Marquez had success against Pacquiao because he threw combinations and kept Manny at a distance. Floyd doesn't really throw combinations anymore. I guess you could say he didn't need to against Mosley, but Mosley just stood in front of Mayweather and that's a really bad idea since May is so quick North/South. The problem I see for Mayweather against Pacquiao is Pac's lateral movement and his low output. I don't think he can keep Pac at a distance and I think Pac will win by decision.
Bling, what about this: Before his fight with Floyd, JMM beat Juan Diaz for the lightweight title. Last I checked, LW was at 130
Nallege, you are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo DENSE it's unbelievable. You call me out for using WIKIPEDIA **UNBIASED** and not using GBP's page then you go ahead and post gibberish from one of the most bias Floyd writers there is? LOL you can't even pick up on his bias. He said welterweight limit of 147 because that is the limit. But he subtly mentions that he weighed over the true contracted catchweight and paid the penalty. IT'S CALLED BIAS JOURNALISM. Ok, here you go from GBP's website. FROM THE HORSES MOUTH>>>> http://www.goldenboypromotions.com/fighters/juan-manuel-marquez/ Scroll down to where it talks about his fight with Floyd... "Marquez stepped up again to another weight class, all the way up to Welterweight and faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. who was considered by many as the best pound for pound fighter in the sport. Marquez came up too small as Mayweather failed to meet the 144 lbs contracted catchweight and ended up weighing in at 146 lbs. Marquez lost a unanimous decision. Mayweather was the second #1 pound for pound fighter that Marquez had faced in the last 2 years." Say it with me slowly, Nallege......COOOONNTTRAACCTTEED CAAAATCHHHH WEEIIGGHHTTTTTT. From GBP's site, what else can you argue? Nallege, it's ok to say you're wrong.
You do know who Richard Shaefer is right lol... I see you are having trouble reading, but then again LW is at 130 lbs lol...
HOW DO I HAVE TROUBLE READING?! IT'S AS CLEAR AS DAY. Let me quote it again for you from GBPs website just because..... Mayweather was the second #1 pound for pound fighter that Marquez had faced in the last 2 years." Just say you were wrong and get over it. Just next time you argue something, make sure you got your facts straight. As I said all along, the contracted weight was 144, Floyd went 2lbs over and paid $600,000. Confirmed by wiki, GBP, and your boy Kevin Iole (although he was slick with his words.) And now you're trying to change the subject. LW is 130-135 FYI...
What i dont understand is why do you guys let him pass if he fights only once a year? Pac is my current favorite ww and i'd b pretty pissed if he fought once a year. Seriously now, once a year?! He's taking his fan's $ and not really given back to them. I know Pac F'd up in march but that was then. Why not end the year with the best boxing match ever?! Some All Time Great Huh?? More like a Wannabe Rapper who ****s his fans in the ass.
