It should also be noted that Pacquiao is NOT AMERICAN. He is a foreign fighter first and foremost, that speaks very little English in interviews; thus lacking ability to talk and sell a fight. Which begs the question, do the above numbers take in to account his viewing numbers and drawing power in the Philippines? Both men bring 50/50 to the table, and need one another equally (Floyd probably more so); therefore none has the right to demand more. If Floyd's insistent on having the bigger share, then Pac has got every right to take the testing cut off date back to 21 days. Edit: And as Philla below me has just mentioned, Pac can even request a catchweight fight, seeing as though he is fighting closer to Floyd's comfort weight
looking at those numers, a 53-47 split would be fair based on their career PPV revenue. Maybe even closer than that if like you said, Pac vs Larios was on PPV and you didn't include the numbers. That's if both fighters had the same legacy at this point. considering that Pac brings more legacy to the table, and also that Floyd has the size advantage. Pac is the p4p#1 and the fighter of the decade and he's going into this fight with a disadvantage in terms of size. 50-50 is fair. Actually, Pac could even say either a catchweight or a split in his favour. If he accepts the smaller split, then that's a major concession
Here we go with that catchweight :huh****. Pac didn't ask for a catchweight against Clottey:-( who's much bigger than Floyd and he is a Champion at 147 so why in the **** would he ask for a catchweight fight?
Clottey ain't no Mayweather man. Pac vs Clottey was to determine who was the better WW, Pac vs Maywaether is to see who is the better p4p fighter. Wouldn't make sense for Floyd to have a size advantage.
When was the last time a Vegas venue was not sold out for a Pac fight? Answer: never When was the last time a Vegas venue was not sold out for a May fight? Answer: Marquez fight.
I understand your point but purse split for a fight has nothing to do with legacy (even though I disagree with your assumption). Boxing is a business first and foremost. Look at Mosley/Mayweather and their 75-25 split. Mosley is a sure HOF'r with an outstanding resume yet Mayweather controlled all aspects of the negotiations. Mayweather can make 30-40 million fighting Martinez next if he wants to. Pacquiao is looking at 10-15 million for Margo or Cotto yet can make at least 30 fighting Mayweather, even with a smaller share of the purse.
wrong on all counts. I'm not saying that Legacy is the only point just one of them that can have an impact. You can't say "It's meaningless that Pac is FOTD", because for Floyd if he wants to have a great legacy he needs to fight Pac or always be viewed as second best by everyone. In order to get that opportunity, he should be willing to cough up some extra $$$. Also, Pac made 23Million against Cotto and 15M against Clottey (a true nobody), and he's a bigger star today than he was before the Cotto fight. Pac can make 30M+ fighting a guy like Margarito, who will take a smaller split than Cotto but generate just as much PPV if not more because he is a premier mexican fighter and a controversial one too.
Do you not understand ticket sales and pricing structure? If the goal is to sell out every Mayweather fight, they would sell the tickets for the same price that they do for Pacquiao fights (50-60% of the cost for Mayweather fights). It's about positioning. Selling 10k seats at a higher price point is better than selling 17k at half-price as it is extremely hard to recreate value once you have taken it away. That is why there are half-empty baseball stadiums all over the US every night. Mosley/May with 15,000 tickets sold generated more revenue than Pac/Clottey with 50,000 tickets in Dallas. If Mayweather fought in Dallas with $50 upper level tickets and $700 for ringside, those would be scooped up at the same pace as Pacquiao.
You didn't include the percentage that goes to ESB fanboys. They spend so much time talking about this crap, it must be a decent amount.
:huh Seriously, where do Floyd fans keep plucking these financial figures from? They ****ing change and get higher everytime they're mentioned. I'm assuming these numbers are inclusive of sponsorship deals, in which case Pac easily matches (and goes beyond) Floyd, considering his Nike deals, TV commercials, and his general God-like status back in his country. When it comes to drawing power and financial status, these two are relatively the same. Manny may be lagging behind him slightly in the US market, but makes up for it because of his popularity in Asia
Mayweather made 40 million for the Mosley fight and you're telling me he couldn't make at least 30 fighting the middleweight champion of the world? Mayweather vs Martinez would be a huge fight, similar to Mosley. Re sponsorship deals and "god-like status", it means ****. We are talking PPV and purses for fights. Pay attention, son.
Are these official figures dude? If they are, are these soley from the fight? Or are they inclusive of sponsorship/appearance deals for the fight?
Been widely reported as such. Not sure if they are "official". We will probably fight out late year when Forbes publishes their findings. 40 million is the supposed purse for the fight and does not include outside sponsorships and appearances Remember, Forbes published that Mayweather made 30 million for the Marquez fight last year.
What's your motivation for watching boxing? To see the best fighting the best or your favourite fighter get what you think he deserves? Anything less than 50/50 and this fight ain't happening. Why don't you call for Mayweather to fight Matthew Hatton? He can demand 70% of the purse then, making all the Floyd fans happy.
