And your speculating that they bought the fight because they are fans of Floyd. I'm not speculating, I know at least 20 people who got the fight STRICTLY AND SOLELY because of the HBO series :deal I only know a handful of people who regularly get boxing fights on HBO, so that is 20 out 25 people who bought this fight that wouldn't have. 80%. That is not speculation, that is analyzing a small test sample and then projecting the results over a larger population :good
I give Mayweather all the credit in the world. Prior to the fight I claimed that I thought he was "acting" on the show and did a great job at doing it. I think he is a genuinely good guy, but put on a front to sell tickets. Him and Hatton are responsible for all of the sales, but they were enabled to sell the fight by HBO....that much can't be denied :deal You need to be reasonable and admit that without the 2 24/7 series and the prior fight with Delahoya, this fight does 500,000 buys tops :deal
STFU you bitter *****. PBF is a megastar deal with it. Not to mention he owns Oscar's ass in the ring.:deal
That isn't him. That is Golden Boy constantly calling and sending **** to these celebrities to get them there. I admit there was a shitload of HUGE stars at that fight, and I'm happy because it was a good fight, and I'm also happy for floyd and Hatton too. But it is the promoters that get them there.
I agree. 850K is the results of the DLH exposure, the success of 24/7 genius idea, & partly because of Hatton. Hatton being white & PBF being Black also adds to the sale rate. Arrogant, bad boy & Villain Floyd persona also has to take credit. This is the reason DLH-PBF sells 2.4M from DLH's best of 1.4M. Same reason DLH-Mayorga sells 900K, credit Mayorga's badboy image & Villain role. If HBO will produce a 24/7 series for Pac-JMM2, I'm sure the PPV sale will break the 500K mark. 24/7 is like a TV mini series like Soprano, you get hooked & you don't want to miss an episode. Especially the final results which requires you to Pay $50 bucks. If Pac-DLH becomes reality next year & sells 2M. What do you think will be the PPV number of Pac next fight? Same with Cotto if he fights DLH next. His next PPV sale would be great. Out of 2.4M who watch PBF-DLH, 1.5M was turned off to watch PBF again. With the way PAC & Cotto fights, I'm sure there'll be a lot of repeat customer. BUt both need a contrasting opponent next to be successful too. Cotto-Mayorga will sell & Pac vs PBF will break all records.
ok, floyd is a draw, but not cause he has fans....just cause he's a good actor..... can we agree on that....
sorry buddy... oscar and tyson have done that before.... shows how much floydtoys know about the sport...
If Oscar did a 24/7 series on a Kelly Clarkson / Clay Aiken duel tour....I'd watch and then pay for the PPV :yep
Thats great. It was a historic Welterweight fight. And it shows that the public is still interested in boxing. No doubt that Mayweather/Cotto would pull similar numbers.
No I'm pretty sure that if this fight would have sold 1 million in the US, that would have been the first non heavyweight fight to have 2 consecutive 1mill+ fights in a row. Didn't happen though.
