Both these guys are great defensive fighters. I was wonder to myself who was the better of the two.

I find myself going back and forth on who I think it is. I know that there really is no wrong answer here but I find myself leaning ever so slightly towards Sweet Pea.

Ironically it's his offense after his masterful defensive moves that did it for me. Part of his defense was to make you pay when you missed.

With that being said who you guys got?

damn look at Floyd's shoulders and gloves trapping everything!!! a sight to see! I think a young Sweet Pea probably had quicker feet and maybe a bit more range of upper body motion. Comparing the two, Floyd looks a bit stiffer in that department- so ducking and bobbing, I think Sweat Pea takes the cake there. Both have cat-like reflexes, but the way Floyd blocks and parries and rolls with those punches is just spectacular.

Pernell Whitaker gets my vote because he shut down the likes of Nelson and Chavez. He made better competition look average. That said, Mayweather is also a great defensive fighter.

Pea. One because of the reason stated above, secondly because I think avoiding punches alltogether is preferable to even blocking everything with arms and shoulders. You can't get better than making your opponent miss completely so often.

Sweet Pea was better at defence and better at offence as well and had a great Jab.

Different styles, hard to compare! Most of the time Whitaker managed to duck & dodge to the extent that he just wasn't there to be hit once your punch was thrown, Floyd on the other hand seems to be in a position to be hit but subtle changes in upper body orientation deflect and nullify almost everything.

I think Whitakers style made his opponents less keen to throw, since hitting thin air all night is incredibly tiring, whereas a few on the gloves, arms and shoulders does not take its toll in the same way. That said, Floyd completely slips a lot of punches too and also has great footwork.

I find it hard to give Floyd credit merely because I dislike his persona so much, I never really knew Whitaker so I base any appreciation entirely on his ring time. So I admit that it is hard for me to be impartial, and at first I would go for Whitaker...but bearing in mind that I don't like giving Floyd credit I think it is closer than that.

Floyd just standing in the middle of the ring vs Philip Ndou is just incredible it just seems impossible to hit him. All that said it is just to close to call

    Both videos are excellent.

    I say pea because:

1- He blocks less and avoids more.
2- He showed it against better opposition
3- He was more aggressive than Floyd which makes it harder.

Guy made a post in one of my "WHO WINS? FLOYD OR SWEET PEA" threads and he said Pea was bobbing and waving not getting hit, and Floyd was blocking the shots and hitting back with beautiful accuracy. I think that sums it up to me, I prefer not to judge, they're two sides of the defence coin to me, and it's beautiful.

I know what you mean. I preferred not to choose also, but I told myself I had to pick a winner.

Whitaker has a better defense and a better offense.
