 I wouldn't go that far but Floyd is more defensive minded than Pernelle who ALWAYS looked to implement offesne after embarrassing his opponent. Floyd on the other hand only applied offense when he know without a doubt that his opponent had no chance at hitting him back.

C'mon man.....Sweet would stay in the pocket and use upper body, head movement and the shoulder roll while right in front of his opponents and they didn't even hit Sweets gloves. Floyd is better at picking off shots with is gloves and arms but Pernel completely evaded offense while standing right in front of his opposition.

Pea was his own worse enemy....he had a major...MAJOR drug problem even in his prime where he was still operating at an incredible level....later in his career it got worse and it took it's toll not only on him physically but with his preparations. Floyd is clean and has incredible work ethic.

    Whittaker for me...

More fluid and total evading of the punches whit less moving backward. It's also so much harder for the opponent if your punches hit nothing but air, takes a lot more energy out of them than hitting gloves, sholders ea

LOL, you cats crack me up. Sweet pea's defense was against great fighters. Mayweather hasn't faced anywhere near the caliber of fighter that Sweet pea meet, or do you rate a Hatton up there with Chavis?

Good thing we'll finally get to see exactly how real Mayweather is when he meets Shane Mosley. We can continue this discussion following that fight.

this is about defense... Saying sweet pea had the better defense because he use more offense is kinda stupid. Like the video title says. One knew the art the other is the master.

    Whitaker.

Saying he wasn't a masterful defender only takes away from your credibility.

Yeah I don't understand either. Whitaker would stay in front of you and still make you miss ducking, slipping, rotating his upper body. Locche was kind of the same too.
I like Floyd's defensive style but I wonder how would he have done against the opponents caliber Pernell fought ?

See.....I know how talented and skilled Floyd is but he lacks SO MUCH in terms of his resume that questions regarding if he is in fact as good as we all "THINK" is still a big question Mark. His fight with DLH was SUPER close, although he won clearly...that performance doesn't say he's better than Pea...who faught a PRIME DLH and did much better....some believe he won. I'm happy Floyd is FINALLY facing a great fighter even though he is 38....shane ain't no joke...and neither was Oscar, but clearly DLH wasn't as good as he was in his prime.
