If you ask me it's ATG. Well within the Dutches of Queensbury rules and something I'll never forget as long as I live
It was a legitimate ko, the ref said "box". Its ortiz fault if he didn't protect himself. Was it an "ATG" ko? Not in my opinion, even in his prime Ortiz was a B- fighter at best. But it did show mayweather knew how to finish a guy if he really wanted to and waa angry enough. The right hand+left hook+right hand combo is a specialty of the Michigan kronk gym, the same state where mayweather is from. My kronk coach told me that combination done right on the chin would ko the vast majority of fighters if it lands flush...guess he was right.
It was an ATG Moment, not knockout. It was actually quite funny. And it wasn't a cheap shot...protect yourself at all times.
Cheap shot. Not worthy of a true champion But in a way Floyd just reteliated cause Ortiz was fighting dirty before.
Protect yourself at all times, and Ortiz was guilty of some infringements.Legitimate ko, but by no means a great one ,imo.
There was nothing ATG about the KO..... I find it less than stellar to punch a guy who's not looking. Frankly I'd be more surprised if a guy wasn't KO'd by a punch he never saw... then being KO'd by one.
It was a total chicken**** cheap shot.... Even if Ortiz may have deserved it. There is nothing impressive about landing punches on a person who has their gloves down. Especially somebody as easy to knock down as Ortiz.
Ortiz was at fault, but the punch Mayweather threw was a bit classless and led to a poor ending. There was absolutely nothing great about the fight, at all.
Re-watched the fight: * It was actually quite fun for as long as it lasted. Ortiz didn't land at a high clip, but he was aggressive and throwing with enough intent to keep things interesting. * Floyd actually had Ortiz holding on at the beginning of the round after landing a couple of combos. I think Ortiz was getting stopped in a few rounds, anyway. * Ortiz was using the head as early as the second and was consistently and blatantly using the head throughout the fourth. * The ceremony of apology had already been conducted...twice...after the foul was called. Floyd was within his rights to refuse further apology once Cortez signaled "time in". * Ortiz made no attempt to defend himself after getting hit with the hook, so Floyd hit him with a nice right to end the fight. Protect yourself at all times, especially after forgetting to do so the first time. * Not KOTY, but a memorable moment and fight, that's for sure.
Ortiz made a mistake. You don't leave yourself with your hands down. I would not call it a great knockout either.
In the bout with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Victor Ortiz, the latter simply wasn't protecting himself, which he was suppose to do in a professional boxing match. In other words, it is a legitimate action on Mayweather's part to take full advantage of the situation. - Chuck Johnston
