Just answer this question what top WW fighter has he ever beaten?

So he should not be compared to guys like Tito Trinidad, Sugar Ray Leonard or Tommy Hearns or even Oscar De La Hoya in their primes in that weight class.

I know but people keep taking like he could handle a real top echelon WW. I don't think he can handle WW at Margaritos or Cottos level let alone ATG's.

It depends how you rank him. On ability and H2H he could of been #1 at the time, but in terms of resume he was probably lacking behind Cotto.

Floyd has never proven to have any problem beating anyone, at any weight. He's also proven to be a near-flawless fighter at every weight, what makes you think he would have any problem beating any current top welterweight, which is full of guys who have multiple flaws in their offense and defense?

His best days by FAR were at 130. He didn't look particularly good in an all time sense at 135.

I agree he was never a great WW. He doesn't have the ability to be either IMHO.

Similar to Whitaker, I rank him higher at the lower weight classes.

There's a lot of fighters throughout history I'd make Mayweather the underdog against at welterweight. At 130 and 135, the number is much lower.

Whitaker had a far better WW stay than Mayweather though, but I agree with the point. I probably wouldn't favor either over the truly elite WW's of all time.

when did floyd or anyone claim he was the best welterweight? i see this on boxing forums all the time. who cares, why is it a junior lightweight's job to clean out the welterweight division? floyd rates at junior lightweight and lightweight. his welterweight campaign was impressive for a natural lightweight/junior lightweight and he should be given respect for what he accomplished there for someone who worke his way up from 130(still more impressive than any welter today besides cotto/marg) but he will never be a natural welterweight. another thing why is it cool for Marg or Cotto to fight DLH when they're natural welters when Floyd was criticized for fighting him over a year and a half earlier when DLH was less shot? basically some people just hate floyd and let that cloud their view of his accomplishments as a fighter.

:patsch Ummmmmmmmm Floyd can fight any top welters and win because of a couple of reasons. 1 Floyd defense is 2nd to no welter you can name except Sweet Pea maybe so no welter is going to land a lot of clean shots on Floyd like always. 2 His counter punching connect percentages is off the charts so who ever is in the ring with him will be getting hit flush a lot. 3 His speed is off the charts fast which is why he uses his left hook and right hand like a jab. 4 The guy never gets tired as he is one of the best fighters stamina wise of all time. 5 His ring generalship is on par if not better then any fighter you can name past or present. Now I am not saying he would beat all these guys because anything can happend in a fight it only takes one shot but he would be even money at least with the likes of a SRL and Sweet Pea and favored over most other Welters in my opinion. Lets get one thing clear though PBF is a ATG and last I checked Margarito and Cotto are not so stop comparing them to PBF they are not in his league. Margarito and Cotto probaly wouldn't fare to well with the great Welters because as of now their resumes say they can't. Stop with the hating PBF can hold his own and to think different just shows you are a hater The guy has put in the work so stop hating already.:hi: :happy :rasta Peace.

He fought and beat 4 linear champions, including the concensus MAN that beat the MAN.

Baldomir - beat Judah, who beat Spinks, who beat Mayorga who beat Forrest who beat Mosley who beat Delahoya who arguably beat Trinidad

Judah - Previous Linear no1 at the weight

Delahoya - WBC 154lb champ coming off destroying Mayorga and 4years earlier arguably avenging his defeat to Mosley

Hatton - beat Tyszu to become undisputed Number 1 at 140lbs. Many claimed he was ducking Ricky Hatton

Cotto/Margarito/Williams have never been linear champions or fought linear champions and need to build their own legacies, Margarito needs to grow some balls and avenge his defeat to Williams who is the current number 1.

I think Whitaker's wins over McGirt are often overlooked.

They might actually be the best wins (I count the Chavez fight as a win) in his career.
