Back then, i could not believe how justified that excuse was. So, in order for Floyd to fight Margarito, or Cotto, or Hatton, Arum had to first Promise Floyd a fight down the line, after 3 fights w/ ODLH?

Margarito became Floyd fan #1 Villain because he challenged Floyd at WW. Back on the board back then, all the floyd fans absolutely hated Margarito because he wanted to face a guy seen as the best boxer in boxing. Pretty sad that's all it took for a bunch of "grown?" men to despise a fighter.

 

How does it not make sense? PBF was preparing to fight Zab, Mitchell was a nice tune up fight to get ready for Zab. Both Zab and Mitchell are both southpaws and both slick both came from 140 and both moved to 147. You really can't be this dumb?

 

Arum simply undervalued PBF. He should have seen that PBF was a once in a generation talent, he must not know boxing as much as he claims to. PBF proved them all wrong bet on himself and laughed all the way to the bank and haters and Arum are still mad about it today. I never thought his demands were unreasonable and looking back at it PBF's demands weren't so out of line compared to what he went on to make, in fact they seem like a bargain.

 

First of all every elite fighter had a fighter who may not be the greatest but they had a stylistic advantage over them again no one is saying Margo was anything special but he had everything that would cause Mayweather issues and Mayweathers own troubles with other opponents who had similar attributes to Margo showed this.Below I will name key qualities Margo had which would cause Mayweather huge problems

Margo's relentless aggression

Floyd has struggled with fighters who came forward with aggression you can look at his fights with Castillo and maidana.Margo from the opening bell would be on top of mayweather with the 20 ib size advantage pressing him landing hard body shots and not wilting NOTHING and I mean NOTHING mayweather could do will prevent Margo coming forward and chopping the tree........a prime pac hit margo with his hardest shots in his career and 1000 times and Margo still kept coming forward.Floyd doesn't have the power to keep Margo at bay so he would succumb to the pressure.

Margo's above average power

Margo clearly had above average power even with his fights with Pac you could see he hurt him couple of times to the body and Pac said he was hardest hitter he faced and in the cotto rematch cotto ran away.....Margo would be hitting Floyd to the body hard and to the head wearing him down until he weakens Floyd would not be able to defend against the body shots because whatever he does Margo would be all over him.


Margos legendary stamina

Its well known Margo had legendary stamina it was exceptional even at times when he was beaten to a pulp he would still find the energy to come forward and land hard shots in the mayweather fight Margo wouldn't have to worry about being beaten to a pulp which means he would have even more stamina scary stff....Mayweather relies on fighters tiring in the later rounds in this case Margo would not get tired and Floyd would be on the backfoot all night like he was against Castillo and Maidana who were smaller not as strong as Margo.

Mentally toughness

Margo was mentally strong as anyone who has fought he was virtuly blind in the Pac fight and you think he never thought for one second he could go permantley blind? he never for one second thought about stopping the fight he kept going such a rare breed of fighter....fighters like brook and matty quit with even not as bad of a injury...

size advantage

This may not be a big factor but when you add the other qualities this will factor in margo will have 20 ibs of weight over Floyd.

Margo would of stopped Mayweather late on with his legendary stamina he was the only fighter Mayweather knew he had no chance of beating hence why he never fought him.

 

Theres always gotta be someone that could of beat Mayweather. Not once did anyone mention Margo it was always Pacman was the man that will beat him. Pac got slapped about now all of a sudden "If Margo would of fought him he would of been the one to take the 0"

I cant stand Floyd. Rooted against him in every fight. But I respect the talent and skills. After a few initial rounds to figure him out, Floyd starts to control everything. Pace, tempo and space. Floyd beats him.

I just can't see how, when the industry was contemporaneously so indifferent to the Baldomir fight.

It's easy to forget that he was P4P rated, with industry expectations of carrying the sport for the next decade. A lot of us thought he just wasn't that good, but others who could've known better (industry folk) thought he was the business.

Not that I'm arguing that Broner was anywhere near as accomplished in 2013 as Floyd was in 2006. He wasn't. The point was, he got to the cusp of major network PPV without a single lineal title and about 2 (some might say 1.5) solid scalps to his name. Many win lineal titles and don't get a sniff of PPV. "Lineal" just isn't much of a factor in the PPV brew.

When Cotto and Tony did decent numbers on PPV in 2008, neither guy had ever been lineal. More marketable factors were involved like Mexico vs. Puerto Rico. Brash African American vs. All-Action Mexican is another similarly marketable proposition.

Floyd had plenty of substance without Baldo and his lineal title, which added negligible (if any) shine to his reputation within his industry. He was already P4P rated, already a two-weight lineal champ and a titlist in 4 divisions. There was no call from within the boxing industry for Floyd Mayweather to prove himself by taking the lineage from Carlos Baldomir.

When Floyd came to the table for a fight with Oscar at 154lb, the marketability of the product was the dominant factor in determining what cut he would take.

For Joe Casual's part, when he was deciding whether he wanted to watch the DLH-Mayweather event, he was thinking of Oscar's established star name, Floyd's trash talk, the frisson between the fighters.

Lineage was down on the list of concerns.

I'm a conservative guy. It definitely would have at least equalled the Gatti numbers, but I'd expect it to have gone past that and equalled the Judah PPV and possibly higher. Point is, greater potential for buys was there with a little derring-do. And, if such things really did matter in the negotiations, he would've gained greater industry acclaim for beating TM than for beating CB.

But Floyd declined, went a less risky route (ducked, in boxing parlance) and it all worked out for him in the end.

That said, who am I to change anyone's thinking on the issue? I'm happy to agree on a disagreement.

 

Why make another thread about this garbage? It's nothing but wishful thinking and unrealistic scenarios that can easily be destroyed and have been already countless times. PBF doesn't lose a round to Margo he's not good and he's a glove loading cheat. After he was busted for loaded gloves he never had a win of note, let that sink in. PBF beat bigger better and stronger fighters than Margo who I might add has over a half a dozen loses.
