Floyd tags him at will. Margo plods l Slowly forward. Floyd ties him up (people say floyd dont HIT HARD but say he is VERY STRONG so he wont be bullied) Rinse repeat floyd via UD
Reading your posts, they make a ton of sense. I like to see some thought put in the opposing views, and you've covered your bases pretty well (Unlike hyperbolic others in this thread...). But I just do not believe being linear had anything to do with the negotiations, or would actually contribute to them. The personalities involved were the major selling points, IMO. that all said, I won't claim to be right on this. Just speculation. Crazier things have happened.
He's not a major player yet either. Or even a top 10 contender at the time. Unless 175 got so weak a division that he made it in to the top ten doing nothing at all.
Laughable post. Floyd would have pity patted the slow, crude Margarito for 12 rounds. Winning every round.
See I was right Like all other haters. The CSAC, Richardson or anyone else you have NO PROOF just baseless ACCUSATIONS !! I'm sorry to see you are not man enough to admit the fact. The CSAC omitted to publicise the entire lab report which stated "While sulphur & calcium, in far larger quantities are ingredients of plaster, they are also active ingredients of HUMAN SWEAT !! No where did the report state that plaster was found in that pad But it was too late Margarito had already been called guilty & BANNED !! So the CSAC tried to cover their ass just like the NSAC did to try tp cover Floyd's IV cheating In my opinion BOTH FAILED!! It just sadden me to see I good fighters career & good name get unfairly tarnished
But you forget Floyd Cried & whined that Maidana " Beat me up & bullied me it wasn't fair" ROFLMAO Tony is a much bigger bully than Maidana
fwiw I enjoyed your patient explanations for Floyd's duck and you even changed my mind on Margo being a cheat. (sorry C.J. but you have form for cheerleading for guys you've met irl) As for the fight itself I think you have to heavily favour Mayweather but at the same time recognise the threats the much bigger Margarito posed. If Margo truly did have nothing nefarious going on against Cotto then that was a stunning victory which speaks to the level he was operating at, whether you are a fan or not. Mayweather UD
He didnt beat Castillo or Maidana FAIRLY he got a " Vegas " decision in both. He should have lost by DQ to both Judah & Ortiz
Most were anticipating the Mayweather/Judah match up which would have been for the lineal at 147. The fact that Judah chose a “stay busy” fight with Baldo and lost was seen as Zab over looking his opponent. That’s why the Mayweather/Judah fight was still very much anticipated even without the lineal title on the line. Floyd beating Carlos was just to take what most already felt was his after taking out Zab months earlier. True. AB isn’t really remember as a boxer who cracked into the p4p rankings but his ability to win world titles in multiple divisions while barely being able to remain undefeated at the time earned him a very short stint in the rankings. Floyd took on the shtick after he made some waves completely dominating Gatti, but he was already very well respected for what he was able to accomplish prior to getting some added recognition from Arturo. AB wasn’t as universally regarded as the real thing vs hype at anytime in his career. The only real players for PPV events are from 140, 147, 154, 160 and heavyweight. Much are consolidated at between 147 and 154 in the current landscape of Boxing. Broner and the networks knew that which is why he was guided the way that he was. Winning titles in multiple divisons on his way up to the PPV divisons that would optimize his marketability. He wasn’t getting any PPV’s at 135 or 140. Indeed....Cotto and Margarito had a lot of things working in their favor for a very successful PPV event. The Mexican/PR rivalry coupled with both being known for their action packed fights generated a ton of buzz within the industry. However, Cotto was already being considered as one of the best PR fighters ever...even though Trinidad and Benitez were still rated ahead of him by most. Margarito was working with a reputation that he was a killer at the time which certainly helped even though he didn’t have any lineal titles at 147. There wasn’t any call within the Boxing industry for Floyd to grab the lineal title from Carlos but I believe it was Mayweather’s plan and he dialed in to accomplish that knowing it would aide him when he began negotiating terms for the DLH fight. I don’t believe Floyd felt having a WBO title gave him much leverage even though the win over a guy like Margarito would have been very well respected amongst fans. The Marketability was the main factor in pushing for a DLH/Mayweather fight but the cut was driven by how well Floyd’s position was at the time of negotiations. Again.....Floyd wasn’t a household name or a crossover athlete, his PPV numbers were below average and ratings decent....but the potential for a huge PPV event was realized by all parties. Even though the only proven PPV star was DLH, the element Mayweather brought to the table with him created a perfect narrative. Floyd knew his clout wasn’t his popularity but his substance and being a lineal welterweight champion vs a WBO welterweight Champion was a stronger argument for extra points for PPV profits and a higher purse. Choosing to not fight Margarito was definitely the less risky option....no arguments there. I’m just saying there were better options for Floyd on the table that allowed him to bypass Tony at that time. While I understand those who say Floyd “ducked” Margarito, I don’t agree. Simply because I believe Margarito would have been on Floyd’s roadmap had he beat Zab and not Baldomir
I'm not a cheerleader for anyone. All I ever want to see is the best man get the deserved win every time. Plus if anyone prpvided proof that Margarito EVER REALLY loaded his gloves Id be the first to denounce him NOONE HAS !!
