Just watched Mayweather-Hatton fight. Great performance by Floyd although Hatton had no business fighting at 147, his punches didn't affect May at all.

Floyd had a fantastic gameplan, he looked small compare to his fights with Mosley and Ortiz.

While watching, Lampley said that Mayweather planned to retire for 2 years. I was actually shocked coz I thought he decided to retire but not for exactly 2 yrs. His reasons that he doesn't want to fight anymore, he lost his urge, vacation, stuffs like that. But what surprised me is that he intended to retire for 2 yrs.

What's the real reason? For me the real reason is he avoided to take on real challenges/threats to his '0'. He knew that people will demand him to fight either Cotto,Mosley,Margo,Williams etc. Floyd is a smart man, he's a tremendously gifted athlete but too bad that sometimes he doubts himself and protects his '0' so much that it's something he can't live without.

    Meanwhile, after 2 years..

    Cotto - Damaged
    Margo - Suspended/Beaten
    Mosley - Became more shot
    Williams - Moved up

1 month before the hatton fight, cotto won over mosley for a title. It would have been better to his legacy had he beaten a better undefeated version of cotto.

Yeah floyd knew cotto would lose to margarito.

Floyd also knew margo would get dismantled by an old mosley.

Floyd also knew Williams would move up.

Floyd also knew ortiz would beat berto.

Floyd also knew marquez would beat pac.

Floyd also knew amir khan would lose to peterson.

Floyd also knew Timmy would be the new WW champ.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

Floyd has a crystal ball, I wonder if he can pick me some lottery numbers.

On a serious note Floyd has been asking to retire ever since he fought Baldomir so him saying he wanted to retire was not a surprise, anyone who has been watching the sport before he fought oscar would know mayweather has been talking about retiring. So your theory falls flat big time. Not to mention this is his 4th - 5th weightclass.

I would understand if he planned to just retire and not retire for '2 years'. That's the whole point of my thread//

Best I can tell, it was a marketing ploy, and it worked.

NOBODY who actually follows the sport thought he was really retired.

A combination of wanting to rest his body and create anticipation for a possible return. I remember him talking about how he was breaking down. He seemed to come back with added muscle and strength.
