Bored, so thought I'd ask people on here a question re Floyd's career weight.

    Floyd's had 42 fights over a 15 year career.

27 of those fights (nearly 65%) were at 130 pounds (or super featherweight).

9 years of his career was fought at 140 or below. In the next 6 years, he's had nearly 3 and a half years off, and only fought 8 times.

So looking at Floyd's career as a whole, what would you classify his career weight as being?

I think his BEST weight was 130.

I honestly wouldnt consider him a Welter at all, and i think he'd be able to make 140, even still (he walks around at what, 155?)

    easily 130

the public will remember him for his work at 147 and beyond though as this is where he became famous. It's easy to distinguish as he altered his style for 147.

$ May > PBF when it comes to being known

Yeah, his two best weights were 130 and 140. He really didn't look great at 135, then all of a sudden the difference in speed between him and his opponents at 140 made a difference again. He looks decent but careful at 147, and a bit sedentary on his feet in that 154 fight. He's not a 154 lb fighter, that's for sure, and historically he's a little bit small for a top welter when you think of SRR, Leonard, and Hearns. I think 140 is his best late career weight, but I don't know if he could comfortably make that anymore.

Floyd said in an interview a year or so ago that the most he's ever weighed was 152 and that was with clothes on.

    Interesting answers.

I thought it was interesting that in his 15 years as a pro, 9 were at 140 and below, and nearly 65% of his fights were fought at 130. And he took 3 and a half years off in the next 6.

Yet because of his "superstar" status, most people will remember him as being a welterweight.

    Which is wrong, imo.

The guy is a top 3 130 pounder ever, imo. And that, based on statistics, is probably his "career" weight.

    P4P - $ May v PBF - who you got?

$ May has that experience and more ring IQ. PBF has that speed and more volume punching.

Would be a great fight, in fantasy land.

yeah he didn't even try to lose weight for Marquez. that was like him walking around. Like I said, when I talked to him face to face a few times we could have been in the same weight class - I would have stepped in the ring based on size alone any day of the week with him, and I used to make 126 easy. He's small.

He could have lost that weight to fight JMM if he wanted to in like one day.

    I'd agree.

Experience and ring IQ goes a long way, and I believe that would lead to a victory for "$ May" (just to use that term again).
