Pretty Boy Floyd had some of the best offense in the game. No further example is needed than the Corrales and Gatti fights. Pacquiao had adequate defense, but it never had that wow factor that Floyd's offense could sometimes produce in those early years. I think the Marquez KO is the nail in the coffin, as well.
