Floyd's retirement reminds me of Barry Sanders retiring in his prime ...

The thing is saul ... Floyd doesn't need Cotto or Margarito ... those guys weren't there on his way up ... they were figures during his climb up the ranks ... they just started getting notorized ...

It would be dumb to say that he needs to fight the winner of that fight to be considered great ...

People have been saying that since he beat Hernandez for his first title ...

The **** will never stop even if he fought Cotto v Margarito winner ...

People just want to see him lose and the fact that he's retiring only adds more fuel to his haters fire.

And what was that reason ... he was only 30 yrs old ... no pre-existing injuries ... and shortly removed from an MVP season --

No matter what Floyd does in retirement there will always be one name linked to his like Frazier is linked to Ali. This however will be for the guy he DIDN'T fight.......Cotto. Margarito may find his name there too.

Floyd leaves a lot of question's unanswered in the welterweight division. Sure he beat a past his prime DLH by a split decision after DLH stopped using his jab. He beat eighty five year old Gatti which is duplicated in even more spectacular fashion by Alphonso Gomez. He beats the fighter he dubbed the midget after holding incessantly for the first few rounds. If he feels no love for the sport then so be it he accomplished quite a bit. It would take a mighty effort to get ready for a Margarito or Cotto and he just doesn't have it in him.

stop the bull****! He's running scared. Maybe he realized that no one wanted to see the DLH rematch and instead of looking like a ****ing douche, he decided to kill 2 birds with one stone. No one will be able to see how poor his fan support really is and at trhe same time duck the real threats at 147.:-(

Cotto isn't on the same level of Floyd and who knows what the future bring for him. Cotto might lose ... have a blue-print set on him and might not recover ... anything can happen.

Cotto hasn't been a champion for as long as Floyd ... Cotto is more of an up and coming star than a solidified star.

You can't compare Cotto with Floyd ... the only thing that links them together is the hope by many Floyd hater that Cotto had the chance to give Floyd his first loss.

Maybe Cotto does indeed lose to Margarito but you cannot tell me that there shouldn't be a comparison between the two. Hell many feel that Floyd is ducking out of the game and Cotto IS THE REASON so there will be comparisons should Cotto win. Not only that, Cotto seems willing to take on EVERYONE in the division, even the one's Floyd would not.

Should Cotto continue in his winning ways it seems he will have faced the better fighters along the way.

Thats all media hype ... where was Cotto in 05' when a fight was propsed to him?

oh he was too green ... well he's going to be ready if he has the goods no matter what. The truth is Cotto was and is a sheltered fighter ... there isn't anyway that he's as good as he appears to be ... I respect him because he has heart and toughness but he's not and will never reach the level that Floyd has reached.

He has yet to beat a reigning champion ... he has yet to beat a guy in his prime ... he has yet to step up to the plate and fight a tough guy ... he's fighting his first legit threat of his career.

FLoyd would've fought anyone (if he were in Cotto's position in 05) he wasn't going to let anything get in the way of achieving the status that he's at now.

Floyds status as of this retirement is in serious review.

Not media hype. Most boxing fans feel this. Everyone has been watching the showdown with Cotto mount for some time now. Then the excuses started.........Cotto isn't mature enough yet, Cotto isn't enough of a box office draw. He definitely IS and beside the fact his record stands alone as enough of a challenge as one of the best in the division.

Where and when was an official offer made to Cotto and was in anything like the one Tony Margarito offered Floyd?

there is plenty of evidence that floyd didn't offer **** to cotto. Floyd was the one who said Cotto was too green to consider fighting , not Miguel. Also what level has Floyd reached that Miguel can not? Don't fool yourself...DLH and Hatton drew the fans, not Floyd. That's another reason why Floyd retired like the ***** he is...he knew the rematch with DLH wasn't going to sell as well as the first, thus proving that he couldn't sell tickets an his name alone. Miguel a boxing fans type fighter...he much more exciting to watch and people like him, which is more than I could say for Floyd. You talked alot of **** when they accused Floyd of being a ducker...and you defended him by saying that the fight will definitely happen in 09. Floyd can not be mention in the same breath as SRL...SRL fought thye very best in his division...Hagler, Hearns, Duran, and Benitez. Floyd fought Corrales...and no one else worth mentioning!...and let's not even get into the 147 division...because he didn't do ****. The mother****er hasn't defended his belt against a top 147lbr in 2 years:-( **** him...I hope he stays retired...he was a ****ing cancer and needed to be removed.

bad comparison: barry was a truly dominant rb, who was almost always exciting, and a fan favorite, floyd was was a very good boxer who beat some good fighters often times in a not so crowd pleasing way
