Man just think if Margo beats Cotto...that would set up something that NO ONE thought would happen two years ago. Williams vs Margo to see who is the MAN. This is almost a tourn style two years at welterweight. Only think I dont really like is that some of the up and comers will be frozen out, much of the way that Juan Marquez was a few years back with MAB Morelas and Hamed.

I can see guys like Clottey, Berto and Lamont Peterson not being able to get fights with the very top guys

While Marquez was unfairly frozen out during the early part of the Featherweight Golden Age (Hamed, Barrera, Morales), he brought everything on himself in the second part (Barrera, Morales, Pacquiao).

Berto and Clottey will get their shot. DiBella will pull some old HBO strings to make those happen one day, especially if Berto is getting HBO dates already.

Berto is on the verge of becoming the new WBC champ now that Floyd Vacated. I read that because he's ranked #1 and his next opponent Rodriguez is #2 that the bout will be for the vacated title. If all goes as predicted. Berto will destroy this kid and position himself as the WBC champ to get some big fights. He's also HBO's poster child in training and has gotten plenty of exposure over the last couple of years. I'd love to one day see a Berto vs PTP matchup!

Since Floyd vacated the title by retiring the ring actually might make the fight between Cotto and Margarito for the vacant ring belt.

If its true what Floyd says ... that won't make a difference if he chooses to come back.

I don't see how. You can't award the Ring belt if #1 beats #5.

Cotto will have to beat either Mosley who will stay at #2, but more likely it will be Williams, whom Cotto has not beaten, is already ahead of Margo, and just won in 1 round against the guy directly ahead of him.

Goldenboy Productions owns Ring Magazine who does the ratings.

Therefore, Oscar drops to 147, then swoops in to fight the Margo-Cotto winner....now he is the Champ.

Easy to see what is coming down the line.

Let's hope so...otherwise we have another "gray-beard" like Hopkins hanging around a couple of more years.

It would be nice if someone could claim the now vacant Ring belt, but not really all that important IMO. Cotto, in the absence of Mayweather, is already the man for me @147. If he beats Margarito, there's no denying that he's the man to beat, Ring belt or no.

As for a Cotto-Williams fight, it would be interesting and it would be the right thing, but we'll likely see Cotto-DLH long before that fight, which i wouldn't find anywhere near terrible either.

The title wasn't vacant, Hopkins won it from Tarver who won it from Johnson who won it from Tarver who won it from Jones who won it by beating Gonzalez.

Calzaghe won it by beating the existing champion.

After Williams victory today . . . he'll go up to #2 ratings in the ring list at 147 then he and Cotto will fight for it.
