The more I've seen of Ricky Hatton in recent interviews and the 24/7 series, it's become clear that Mayweather has well and truly got under his skin. Hatton's anger (seemingly mixed with apprehension) is slightly worrying from where I sit. I have never seen Hatton so outwardly angry at any previous fighter, nor has he previously needed to tell the media (or himself it seems) how much of a surprise Floyd's going to get when they meet in the ring. It could be partisan media coverage, but I haven't seen or heard Hatton say with any conviction that he's going to beat Floyd, but rather that whatever happens he's going to make this the toughest fight of Floyd's career. This perceived lack of confidence or self belief may well place Hatton at a disadvantage if things do not go to plan when he's in the ring trading blows with Mayweather. Personally, if any fighter in the world deserves to overcome Mayweather based on boxing ability, strength and character then it's Hatton. Mayweather needs to be humbled, but not in boxing terms. Hatton has all of the requisite qualities that - if victorious - would provide Mayweather with the humility that he needs to enable him to appreciate others for things other than how much they're willing to kiss his ass or laugh at his jokes. I just don't think that Hatton has the self belief to realise this victory.
I think that Ricky very much believes he can win this fight; he's not just trying to convince himself...BUT, he also DOES try to convince himself, as, indeed he should against the very best.
well i dont really care for Rick but to be fair he has stated several times that he will win and i have never heard him back down from that either. However on 24/7 he did say if Floyd beats me he will praise him because he will have earned it....then he goes on to say but Floyd won't....i gotta give it to Rick he seems fairly confident to me.
i only watched the second episode and remember him in the car saying that he truely believes that he is going to win
What do some of you want him to say then? "yeah im here to make up the numbers,i aint got a hope because all the ESB american fans on the main board say so"?
So you have inside info from Mayweather's camp that he is not taking Hatton seriously...if Mayweather's own mum knows Hatton will bring his A game then certainly Mayweather will listen to her:good
Your a fool if you think this doesn't go both ways...I can guarantee you after Team Hatton watched the last part of 24/7, they would have been clearly fustrated by those jokes by Mayweather's camp: Aaaahhhh (swing-miss), Aaaaahhhh (swing-miss)
Besides boxing, Floyd has a unique talent - mind you not a very useful one - to get people pissed off at him. Not sure how much of his trash talk gets to Hatton but should any of this translate into Hatton going ape**** on Dec. 8th, he will be stopped. Good thing though that it doesn't work that way. Comes Dec. 8th, all the trash talk will be forgotten and both boxers will have come back to their senses. That's a "duh!"
I don't know how you're saying Hatton doesn't seem confident. In basically every interview he's in, and in all of the 24/7's he constantly says that there's no way in hell he's going to lose. But on the other hand of that, I do think it seems like he's trying to convince himself that he will win. His confidence inspired me a little bit at the beginning, but now it seems more like a kind of desperate confidence... I still hope he beats the hell out of Floyd though.
It his just plain mind games like hatton says he makes more fun at himself than in a lifetime that mayweather will.
