Do you guys think Floyd should be ranked as a top 2 welterweight?

I know he should be ranked top 2 p4p, but i'm not so sure about welterweight.

I only say this b/c I ask myself what has he done at welterweight to be ranked so highly. He hasn't beaten ANY of the top welterweight guys out there. He is only up there b/c of his over Baldomir so long ago and beating Hatton who didnt have any business fighting at welterweight in the first place.

    What do you guys think?

He retired the undefeated champion who beat the last two undisputed champions, and a former titlist in Hatton. He never lost his title in the ring. He deserves a top 5 spot.

Top five, yeah. That sounds right to me but he shouldn't be one or two because he has not fought a welterweight in a long time. You can't just stay up there forever no matter how little you do so long as your 0 doesn't go.

This is the era of stripping titles. I'd say he should be no worse than 4 or 5, but guys like Tony Zale(i believe for military) and Dempsey(resting on laurels) didn't defend their titles for years and came back still recognized as the champion.

  5. Floyds Resume @ 147:

    Marquez
    Hatton
    Baldomir
    Judah
    Mitchell

Throw the DLH win at 154 in there.

Whatever his p4p worth, Floyd can **** off with claims to a top welter ranking.

Where would you rank him???Alot of people dont take into consideration that when Floyd retired in 2007, Berto was still a prospect, Moseley said he wanted a break when Mayweather wanted to fight him in '06, and Margarito and Cotto hadnt established themselves as top dawgs in the division. The smoke cleared in 2008-2009 when he was retired.

Two undisputed champs sound real good until you put their actual names in. Baldomir and Judah. The same Judah who lost to Baldomir.

We can all put the strength of opposition Floyd took on in order to be "undisputed" in perspective when we remember this is the same Baldomir who was losing to Joshua Clottey until Clottey got DQ'd. Floyd never went anywhere near the Cotto's, Cintrons, Margaritos, Mosleys. And when these guys rose to the top and it would become so obvious that he was ducking them if he didn't fight these guys, he retired.

When you say former titlist in Hatton it just emphasizes how you focus on "labels" without taking a look at their merits. Hatton struggled against Collazo and it was by no means a clear-cut decision he escaped with to be a titlist at '47.

Team Cotto said they werent ready...Mosley had a tooth ache and Cintrons hasd not re established himself... Its like all you guy like spout these things with taken into account what happen in that year. Who else was left?

If thats the case you could take a look at the number 1 fighter in Welter which is Manny and say...Well who has he beat at welter? DLH...? Hatton who had just got knocked out by Floyd in one of his last 2 fights... And Cotto who got knocked out by Marg in 1 of his last 3 fights... And that fight was at 145... So like you said you have to take EVERYTHING into consideration...

    And so he picked Hatton?
And after everyone who matters at welterweight got "ready", Floyd then picks someone like Marquez? Is it just me or is there a really obvious pattern here?

This thread is about Floyd getting ranked as high as he is now at welterweight. If you want to argue about Pacquiao's ranking at welter, you better start a new thread or post your sentiments on an appropriate thread.

But on the other hand, let me address that one. In two fights at '47, Pacquiao has taken on the greater challenge than Floyd has in five f*ckin fights at welterweight. Think about that, then contemplate if you still want to say something to represent Floyd.

If Margarito, Clottey, or Mosley had been the true champions at Welter when Floyd got there theirs no doubt he would have fought them in my opinion.
