An underrated fighter nowadays, in my opinion. He wasn't afraid to travel, and guys like Weir and Guiden were very dangerous punchers.

Moore ran into a near consensus top 25 all time great fighter in one of his best latter career performances. That doesn't mean he wasn't a fine fighter in his own right.

 

I was going to put kalamby _ Nunn everyone expected a chess match between to master boxers. nobody did that to sumbu before or after made Nunn look like a destroyer which is why the Barkley performance was such a disappointment in his next fight .I would wager that if that fight was repeated ten times that probably wouldn't happen again with Sumbu winning a few .Very underrated fighter .

 

Yes jowcol,...hollyweird can distort with their lies and distortions all they want...and maybe they can sway the thinking of the most gullible and ignorant of casuals and know-nothing sheep, but for my money, I'll stick with this....that if rematched with a more mature middleweight Griffith...i.e., the one who decked and defeated Carter's boss man Tiger,...Emile would have outsmarted and neatly outboxed Carter by an even greater margin....as I'm convinced that EG was a better fighter as a middleweight than he was even as welterweight champion...certainly he improved greatly vs Tiger over the fighter that he was when he met Carter in 1963....and as for the Giardello fight...I knew from a Boxing Illustrated magazine waaay back in the 60's, that the old fox Giardello, according to writer Lew Eskin, "trotted out everything he had available from his substantial bag of tricks to out think and out box Carter". Yeah, screw hollyweird,...and that includes the hatchet job that Opie did on Max Baer too.
Quarry-Chuvalo should have seen a rematch IMO,...and Jerry would have easily reversed that fluke loss.
Just keep plugging away my ol' buddy, you'll find a job that will fit like a glove...I'm in security now....and I only work 32 hours a week at a low stress, very unstructured job that's just perfect for an "outside the box" loner type that I am...plenty of time to myself.

Are Rahman and McCall to Obvious to mention? I'll add Braddock vs Baer, and maybe Douglas vs Tyson, though with caveats, reservations, and uncertainties. Oh, and maybe Fenech vs Nelson one?

 

He was also a very limited fighter. Poor defensive skills and wide punches. If Benitez doesn't break his leg, I think he probably figures him out and catches up with him on the cards. Or maybe he ends up losing by decision. Either way, if they fought 10 more times, I just don't see Moore getting rid of him early again.

 

Oliver McCall/Lennox Lewis.

 

He may have been a bit limited, but he was also very fast, hit damned hard and could put his punches together very well. You don't beat the historically underrated Ayub K. if you don't have something to offer. He was at least as good as Bruce Curry (probably more talented and technically proficient in truth) and Curry had him at sea in the first fight.

Even without the broken leg, this wasn't an easy out for El Radar, even in his prime. And Benitez was past his prime at that point.

Id pick the loser in both of those fights to win 9 out of 10 times it just so happened that 10th fight was the first one they fought.

Lol at Shavers-Quarry. Shavers a totally overrated weak chinned, modestly skilled, bad stamina slugger going up against an experienced hard punching counter puncher with a great set of whiskers. Quarry always kicks Shavers overrated ass. He also schooled Lyle who knocked Shavers out.

 

I agree, Moore may have always beat this faded version of Benitez but that ankle break was a fluke that ended things early.

Nobody thought Moorer was going to be a champion very long but Foreman was 43 and coming off a loss. That was unheard of.
