Im curious to see if anyone who cares about the lower weight divisions would like to make some predictions about who will hold which of the 4 big titles at the end of the year? Predict Away
Fearless prediction. Ioka and Yaegashi rematch with the lineal title on the line. I say Ioka wins another close decision. Meanwhile, Choclacito and Estrada also rematch, and Roman wins another thriller. The drums begin to beat for a Gonzalez-Ioka showdown in Japan by the end of the year (probably see them both defend on the same bill). Either way, some insanely entertaining fights will be made, and flyweight will remain the most exciting division in boxing, as far as hardcore fans are concerned.
The lower weights have great fights and are over looked to much. Very skillfull men and even the fly weights can really punch
They will all be ducking Chocolatito.. We probably will see Estrada Viloria and Ioka Yaegashi rematches, both fights will be terrific. I think Ioka will win again. Estrada i'm not so sure. Segura, Tyson, Concepcion, Fuentes and Sosa will be in great fights against eachother .. And Reveco will do a Narvaez the coming years.
Think Viloria will be in decent shape to be a champion again, though I am not so sure a rematch with Estrada immediately as his return is the smartest idea.
I think Ioka stops at Light Flyweight and goes through the Thai that beat Miyazaki, and at some point defends against wonderkid Inoue. I see Estrada fighting Segura and the winner fighting Gonzalez. Yaegashi I think will defend his belt against Luis Concepion.
I expect Tyson Marquez vs. Edgar Sosa. The winner gets another title shot. Yeagashi vs. Concepcion is also very possible. And i see a chance for a unification between Reveco and Estrada.
Lineal: Ioka WBC: Ioka WBA: Roman WBO: Roman IBF: Mthalane ...if there is a God. This will have meant that some of the best rematches in all of boxing got made in Ioka/Yaegashi II and Roman/Estrada II. Mthalane is a top notch fighter so unless he fights a top 5 guy I don't see him losing at all, just my opinion on Moruti. Mthalane has long been an underrated fighter. He has a solid resume for someone generally seen as a mere titlist to casuals.
Is Mthalane still IBF champion, though? I agree with the assessment, but he hasn't fought in well over a year.:think
Yes he's still champ. He defends the title in Thailand in January. He got cut some slack because he would have fought a couple months ago if his opponent hadn't withdrawn (Mthalane was scheduled to travel for less than 10k to defend the title; his opponent withdrew as he was making 1/3 of that).
Gotta give Mthalane props for travelling to an opponent's backyard for the second time in a row. If he wins, Luis Concepcion would be next in line to face him, and that would be another excellent match-up.
He traveled for the (I think it was Ricardo Nunez in Columbia?) and Saritzu in Italy defenses. Now to Thailand... And so on and so on making relative peanuts.
