'You think I gave this sport my whole life to say there is another fighter better than me?'

    That's a respectable statement.

My take on best is going head to head with other greats. In other words I say that PBF going into the ring against some greats from the past, does not bode well for him. He doesn`t beat SRR,SRL or Hearns in the ring, IMO ...If we talked about stats, can you imagine trying to compare PBF`s stats, against SRR`s ? Talk about a blow out...

Great points !! Floyd has every right to say he is the greatest. But, it opens the door for public sentiment and debate...

Agreed. PBF would never have signed to fight PRIME SRL SRR or Hearns... Not only would these greats NOT be intimidated, PBF would be ! And these guys would come out looking to blow him out of there. They fought the best for bragging rights and they didn`t do it by fighting timid and safe. One of the MANY grea things about the 2 Sugars. Is that they would get down and get nasty if the situation warranted that. And they both punched in combination with power ...

Naw, not really. Hopefully, that being the case, he'd respect that sport. Part of that respect would be the acknowledgement of objectively better fighters.

That's right, but it has to be put into perspective.

He had 200 fights! Could you imagine a fighter today having 200 pro fights? It's unimaginable. He was fighting every month at one point. He fought just 2 months before he lost to La Motta, and then he re-matched him just 3 weeks later. Most of his losses came in his mid 30's onwards. He fought until he was 44. It would happen to anyone. Floyd only fights once a year. Then take into consideration that Ray ran nearly 6 miles per day, everyday, and there were less weight classes back then, it makes him truly remarkable. He had a 25 year career.

Great post! If Floyd fought back then, he'd have had a lot of vacations, that's for sure.

Roberto Duran would have terrified him, and as for Tommy, don't even go there.

He wouldn't have fought Tommy for a billion dollars.

imagine being rich beyond your wildest dreams because you're a 5 weight undefeated atg. being that good and having the numbers on your side and dedicating your whole life to being the best you would also have trouble saying you're not the best, especially if someones never beaten you. i don't even think he's top 20 yet but the majority of people who told themselves their whole lives they have to best and use that as motivation would say the same thing if the accomplished what he has. there's been far shittier fighters to claim that (i think i heard tyson fury say something about him being the best and not even trolling) here).

Not even for 2 billion... I know it`s been said before, but Floyd`s people get pretty quiet when the name HEARNS comes up... They try to deflect it by bringing up that PBF started at 130... hey, Floyd says THE best, he brought up the arguement...

I don`t think anyone`s saying that PBF doesn`t belong in top dog conversation. But, when he says the best and starts saying that he`d whip SRL... He invites the banter about him being less than ...

Coorect. Trying to compare PBF`s record against SRR`s is laughable ! SRR fought EVERBODY ! And over a long period of time. Besides, fighters back then FOUGHT ! They weren`t interestd in trying to protect a phony 0...

Why do people jerk off over Hearns being so unbeatable? He lost to the only great welter he fought then got KO'd by Barkley when he finally fought someone his own size

So by that logic Robinson isn't the best because he'd lose to Ezzard Charles? :patsch

good point. But styles make fights and Hearns is a stylistic nightmaer for PBF. Thing to remeber with Hearns, he lost because he would go for all the marbles all the time, even to his detriment... But against PBF he would run right through him, as Floyd would have nothing to keep him off with. Fact, Hearns stops Floyd... And the reason people love Hearns is because he was a true warrior...PBF would never even fight Hearns much less beat him ...
