If they were in the same era in their prime Floyd would be a 135 lb'er. Hearns wasn't going for all the marbles when Leonard knocked him out he was boxing behind the jab nicely but his chin and stamina let him down and it was Ray going for it.
Got me Turbo, relevant point I was responding to Floyd`s claim to being the best, It does invite debate. And for the record, Charles beats SRR at 175... I think Ezzard was THE best ever at lt.heavy... I know we don`t always see eye to eye. But, you know your stuff and it`s good to get a different view point !
Good stuff :good Did he ever say he'd beat Hearns or Robinson though? I personally have never read that.
sugar ray leonard? you think ray would've asked for drug testing against the 5'5" paq? no, he would've just beat the ass. ****, ray fought a prime tommy hearns who would've ruined both Floyd and manny. but only manny would've stepped up to the challenge because if Floyd went on vacation to avoid margo he would've self-incarcerated himself to avoid the inevitable ko he would suffer at the hands of the hitman. ffs, duran probably would've broke down Floyd. how on earth does anyone even mention Floyd(im going to fight Alfred angulo) mayweather with sugar ray leonard?
Bring on the stats? How many losses SRR and SRL have? And how many bums SRR have in his resume? SRR fought a lot of great fights and A LOT of tomatoes cans. Second of all, SRR, SRL and Hearns are all 2-3 weight classes higher than Floyd so how can you talk about H2H in that manner? Why don't you just say that Vitali, Lewis, and Foreman is better than SRR while you are at it. Put Floyd against the likes of Pep, Whitaker and we'll see who comes out on top.
The only reason why Hearns would prolly win in the fantasy match is bc he is so much bigger than Floyd. Why don't you just put Hearns in a fantasy match with Roy Jones jr, or against Holyfield. Is laughable how clueless people are in boxing forum. People ever wonder why that Floyd can't get any credit against fighters who is his weight? and that when he is in fantasy matches he is always being compared to guys that fought all the way to light heavyweights? And he doesn't have a claim to say he is the best?
Bring on the stats? How many losses did they have? How about looking objectively at the circumstances involved. Who did they fight, and when? Ray Robinson fought 200 times!! He was fighting every other month at one point. Yes, he probably did fight a lot of cans, but he also beat some good tough fighters, in a much tougher era. It's unimaginable to think of a fighter today having that many fights. Do you think Floyd would go undefeated in a 200 fight, 25 year career, that ended at 44?? Floyd's fighting Guerrero on May 4th. Now lets imagine him fighting Bradley in June, then Khan in Aug, then someone like Garcia in Sept/Oct, then someone else before x-mas. It's unimaginable to envisage any fighter today fighting another 4 or 5 times before the end of the year. Any fighter would accumulate some losses. Yes we know Leonard lost. But to who, and what were the circumstances involved? Why on earth can't we talk about a fantasy head to head with Floyd against Leonard and Hearns etc? Just because of the same day weigh in? Please!
Hearns was so much bigger than most people he fought, especially at 147. Hearns was much bigger than Leonard.
Floyd has fought close to 200 matches in amatuer. SRR doesn't have an amatuer background but the cans that he beat is no better than them either. You are trying to justify that one fighter is better than the other by saying hearns vs Floyd who hearns is naturally 20lbs over Floyd. It doesn't work like that. THats like what i said earlier of pitting Roy JOnes jr vs Hearns.
Tommy's style would easily handle Floyd. Floyd never fought someone with a jab and speed like Thomas Hearns. And the sharp punching of Hearns. All excuses aside that Floyd is smaller than Tommy naturally and all that, Tommy would stop Floyd in the midrounds. Floyd could avoid the right for some time, but I think Tommy's jab really does a number on him.
Against Pep and Whitaker ?? You might be wrong on that ...And if your trying to rain on SRR, man you haven`t a clue... He fought EVERYONE from 147-160. And if your trying to compare the #of quality opponents that he and Floyd faced ? Your delusional at best... Wake up, the original Sugarman fought them all !! As for tomato cans, Srr has fought more quality opponents as a pro than PBF has fought total # of fights ! Now you want to compare the two. PBF has SRR in only one area, defense maybe speed. But, POWER, conditioning, chin, mental toughness, heart and experience all for SRR...Head to head or however you break it down, SRR OWNS PBF all day every day...41 pro fights before he lost his first fight, and that was to a full fledged rock solid middle in Jake LaMotta ! Trying to compare records with SRR and PBF, wow talk about ignorance...
Look Floyd has campigned at welter for some time now, so it`s completely relevant to match him head to head with other great welters...
Do i look like that i'm wrong often? One thing i'm good at is picking winners, my track record speak for itself, plus i have common sense and understands how boxing works. You are one of those guys who just believe hype, throw out some big names in the past and pretend that you know how things work.
