Canelo might be the best at 154, but compared to the best P4P he just doesn't compare. He looked sloppy in the second half of his fight with Trout. He looked very tired. That was a fight I thought he might have lost. I wasn't keeping score, but it was close! If Trout can win that many rounds against Canelo, how many do you think Mayweather can win? Canelo has tons of power, but I hope he has enough endurance to use it for 12 full rounds. Fighting in spurts won't do it. You'll just give Mayweather time to think. You give him time to think, and it's all over.
Feeling the pressure and the strenghth of a bigger man may force Mayweather to have to fight outside his terms. Against Marquez at 147 lbs, Mayweather was superior in every physical aspect of the game. Thats not so in this fight with Canelo in which Mayweather is asking Canelo to drop two pounds from the limit.
I can see this. I doubt Alvarez will try as hard as Marquez though Marquez was throwing nice combos and trying to trap Floyd in exchanges.
What exchanges? Mayweather refused to get into exchanges with Marquez, yet he did so against Cotto. Mayweather's mindset was not to take it to the master counterpuncher. I dont think Mayweather views Canelo as a capable counterpuncher, but he will respect his size advantage.
Is he capable of consistently countering with combos? When I watched the Lopez fight he was countering with single shots most of the time against a handpicked opponent. That was probably his best performance yet
Floyd will be moving all night, but im not sure if Canelo's gassing had more to do with Trout's size and work rate. The interesting thing here is that canelo is patient, and I've always believed Floyd is at his most vulnerable when you let him lead.
