I think Whitaker's Power is underrated by most on ESB.... He wasn't a huge puncher, but sure had power when he decided to use it... People talk as if he was a total feather fist.

easy answer, floyd ducks the fight by saying Whitaker's PPV #s aren't good enough, Ellerbe echoes him saying, The #s don't lie.

floyd then handpicks Dominican ex champ jake the snake rodriguez as his next opponent, saying he has a whole island behind him.

the next day pimp c goes on esb and posts "Floyd would knock out Pea anyway, now he can make $ from the Dominican market"

I think floyd by decision. It wud take him a while to solve sweet pea but his adaptability wud win him the fight.

How would he go about it? He lost 4 rounds to Judah, remember. Even if his adaptability did come into play, you really think the gulf between Pea and Judah is that small that he wouldn't be able to take at least another two rounds off Floyd? You really think Floyd would prove dominant enough in the latter half of the fight to take the decision? Again, how does he go about it?

He lost 3 rounds to Judah. Pernell and Judah fight nothing alike, even though both are southpaws. Judah is a one shot counterpuncher. He loads up on one big shot and waits for you to make mistakes. I doubt Floyd would fight Pernell like he did Judah. Most likely it'd Pernell making the fight against Floyd, like he had to against Mcgirt.

And we can really say the same thing about McGirt. McGirt wasnt as good as Floyd. Yet he took 4 rounds off Pea and dropped him.

I dont think that reasoning works for this fight. HArd to see Floyd overcoming Pea's activety though.

Floyd would then agree to the fight but only to demand olympic-style testing which leads to a collapse in the negotiations.

I had him taking the 12th as well.

I wasn't necessarily comparing the two, I was just remarking at how he put into such simple terms how anyone was going to beat Pernell Whitaker. If anything, Floyd's tendancy to take a few rounds to figure out an opponent would cost him dearly against Whitaker.

There is a much bigger gulf between Pea and Judah than there is McGirt and Floyd, at Welterweight anyways. Floyd hasn't proven enough to me at the weight that I'd even favor him over McGirt there, to be honest. I know that's blasphemy on the General Forum, but Floyd just hasn't really impressed me as a Welterweight.

A giveaway round in a fight Zab Judah decided to end in the 10th that was decided in the 5th.

I've never seen Floyd take a few rounds to figure out his opponent. There was really nothing different from Floyds approach to Zab in the 1st round to his approach to him in a 10th, he pressured Zab until he wilted under the pressure. Nothing really changed. Same with Hatton, landed right hands until Hatton wore himself out and his punch resistance was shot. Rarely has Floyd been made to switch gameplans mid fight. Only against Castillo in the late rounds did Floyd fight different.

Floyds competition hasnt been stellar at the weight, but I believe he's done more then enough to demonstrate his skills at the weight. He's not as fast or energetic as he was at the lower weights, but his increased size as increased his defense considerably. Floyd used to take punches at the lower weights, he really doesnt anymore.

THe stylistic problems with Whitaker is that he doesnt waste punches. He is as fast as Pacquiao but not as undisciplined. Where as Floyd will be able to easily counter Pac, Whitaker wont be so easy. Still I think Floyds quickness combined with size and strength would give PEa problems aswell. Both are very cagey fighters who know how to frustrate their opponents, much like how Whitaker owned Chavez even on the inside.

I think the fight would be competitive, but Whitaker should take it on activity. I think the PAcquiao fight will give us more of an indication how Floyd would handle a southpaw who throws punches in bunches

i don't think floyd would catch pernell. floyd is good at throwing his jab-like right hand against fighters who stood up in his face, pernell would be different
