I must have had too much I basically missed the first round while typing a lot of inane bull****. I'm great.
Technical difficulties. Round 1 Contreras landing better, shuffling around and setting himself up for right hands. The punch looks good but he's got to keep his feet anchored as it drags him into and right by his opponent. Cruz for his part does well only in the clinch. Round 2 Contreras mixing in left hooks now, landing well. Cruz trying to walk Contreras down and largely getting countered by the bigger man. Round 3 Contreras finally hurts Cruz a bit. The hooks emerging as a favorite weapon, but the para-glider right hands are still cocked and loaded.
Bleh, not a great fight. Would rather see Wilder KO another fat bum. Been mainly focusing on the 3 cute girls in the front row.
Round 4 Contreras sticking with the right hand, even though the kite-string is still tied around his feet. At least he tucks his head to the left on the way in. :conf Cruz trying to tighten up and do some inside work behind a jab but Contreras able to slip. The right hands leaving a bit of red welt on the left cheek of Cruz. Contreras keeping Cruz at the very end of his hooking range. Cruz trying to close the gap with his jab, mostly missing, but Cruz does nail him with a right cross as Contreras squares his back up against the ropes.
Atlas gave Cruz the 4th because of one punch? :blood Round 5 Cruz waving his left hand at Contreras, and lobbing right hands near where he thinks the body of Contreras might be. Contreras with a little fancy footwork, sort of running sideways with his body leaned over to the side, and settles down in front of Cruz, landing hooks in between defensive shifts. Cruz just pursues him with his wuss of a jab. They clinch and Contreras complains of a rabbit punch at the bell.
I remember he once gave a guy a round who was getting outclassed and Joe got incredulous and asked why and Atlas was like "I don't know, he seems like a nice guy." and Joe cracked up. I think it was a subtle slam at the other fighter. Anyway, good times.
Round 6 Contreras showing a little shoulder roll, slinging the hook out, and reverting to jabs and right hands every now and then just to keep Cruz on his toes. Cruz keeps wading in with his right hand low and collecting check hook impressions on his cheekbone. Cruz is determined to get that one jab planted on the stomach of Contreras. If that's all he does all round, it's a moral victory as far as he's concerned. Contreras is looking bored, dancing backward, occasionally sending a right hand telegram.
