FNF: Juan Carlos Burgos vs. Frank Archuleta & Maxim Vlasov vs. Isaac Chilemba RBR

That **** had to hurt. I winced just watching it.

 

Highly enjoyable FNF imo, we got a good opener and two nice finishes.

 

In some ways Marquez/Katsidis, Soto/Antillon and Hasegawa/Burgos all had a similar theme for me. Stronger man uses his strength to the maximum of what it will get them against a far better technician and comes up short. Katsidis came up shortest against the best in the three fights, Burgos, as far as I remember, did the best of the three tough guys even though Kat scored that KD. All top fights of last year, I think.

Yeah, I give tonight a solid B.

 

Meh.....one good fight and 2 over matched opponents doesn't do it for me.

 

You needed more Atlas analogies, didn't you? Here, let me help.

Teddy: "Joe! This guy is like a bottle of shampoo! Not the regular kind that just smells of some generic soap but the the apple-scented kind that really makes ya feel pampered! And this other guy is like a bald scalp. He doesn't want all that shampoo! It's wasted on him. And the fact that it's special shampoo is just too much of a price ta pay."

Joe: "So, what you're saying, Teddy, is that the first fighter is being very flashy and throwing a lot of nice stuff but not landing?"

Teddy: "Yeah, that's what I said. It's apple-scented shampoo on a bald head, Joe."

 

It was a great night for HJY even though he was not on the broadcast. We took the fight after the card was established and we knew going in that he would not be on TV. HJY visciously knocked out a very rugged Donovan Castenada in at the 2:08 mark of the 5th Round. It was a one sided fight and HJY looked very sharp. The TKO would have been a KO had Castenada not been hung up on the bottom rope. HJY showed his blazing speed and an increase in power that was painfully evident during the knockout flurry. ESPN producer called it the knockout of the night - except that they didn't tape the fight! We will be back in the ring in 8 weeks. Thanks for the support!
