    Alright Jeff,

I just got back from a few days at my parents where I found a boxing monthly of mine from 2004.

Whilst reading it from start to finish again, (not much else to do there) I noticed that you were ranked 10 in the British rankings for super feathers - I think Michael Gomez was 1st, Craig Docherty 2nd and Alex Arthur 3rd.

Do you know if this was your best ranking and did you ever get close to getting a fight with any of these guys? Just interested.

    Cheers Girv

Thanks for the interest Girv- Bit embarassed but hey! .. I got to ninth in GB after the Martin Hardcastle 'defeat'... I was pretty good at my best. I've been matched with Micheal Gomez, Gavin Rees, Amir Khan, Charles Shephard, John Murray and Barry Hughes but luckily those fights never came off. lol. Though at my best perhaps i'd have given Charles Shephard a good tussle. Steve Holdsworth and a few other chaps in the know including Gomez himself have said i'm a colossal waste of talent.

But to be honest I just turned pro too early while I was still learning the sport and when I lost my unbeaten record became a bit disinterested- I'd say i'm pretty talented but have a poor mental approach, I know when i'm doing something wrong and it takes me to long too pull myself together and stop doing it. Also when I'm tired I get on my bike too much. I never had a good jab when I was fighting and i've worked on it lots recently and have to say its getting pretty good.

Ultimately i'd say i'm ok and haven't fulfilled my potential but to be honest i'm nowhere near as good as the likes of Brian Rose and Jack Arnfield who are the leading Blackpool fighters these days.

Blackpool despite its lack of professional success in recent years has seen some fabulous fighters bred here. Ashley Delaney, Mathew Ellis, Roy Finlay, Andy Abrol, Mitch and Brain Rose, the Arnfields, the Deans, Gavin Nicols, Matty Askin, Scott Cardle, Karl Kirkham, Adam Little, Will Letham and Tom Scott all spring to mind plus a host of deent club level guys... Seriously if Jack and Brian can get to championship level, they'll have Karl Kirkham, Matty Askin and Scott Cardle hot on their heals... great times for the area.
