It looks like Lacy's reaction is due to his offer on the JT fight. Sadly in boxing you're as good as your last performance and that was painful to watch. Lacy showed that he's one of the dumbest fighters in the ring. He doesn't have any leverage or titles, so 500K sounds good to me.

It says a lot about Calzague's stock, if I was him I wouldn't mention this guy as one of his best fights.

Jeff Lacy reveals the Insult that made him Retire from Boxing

In a recent article by Eddie Daniels for the The Tampa Tribune, Jeff Lacy reveals the reason he says he is retiring from boxing. Lacy feels the money he was offered to fight Jermain Taylor was an insult.

Lacy tells the Florida based publication that before he even fought Epifanio Mendoza last week, he was offered $500,000 to fight Taylor. Lacy who went on to defeated Mendoza with a majority decision, said the purse was then upped to $550,000.

Lacy tells the Tampa Tribune: "What do I look like fighting a fight of that caliber for $550,000 when I have more to risk than anything. I feel like Taylor needs me more than I need him and what do I look like fighting that fight for $550,000 and risking my life in there like I did Wednesday night because the referee is not on top of this guy hitting me in the back of the head."

Lacy has lost his mind, talking about "risking his life" only happens after getting the **** beaten out of you, ala Calzaghe vs Lacy.

The guy should have taken the final 550k and finished up, no way he beats Taylor these days.

550k sounds good for about half an hours work.

    He wont be missed.

2 fighters have an extra L on there records because they were fighting the name "Jeff Lacy"and not the fighter we knew as Jeff Lacy.

Just i thought and said several days ago Lacy overvalues himself...i thought he was offered way less but $550,000 after a few gifts and horrible outings should be a good retirement package for the OVERHYPED 1 dimensional Lacy.

I Agree. Calzaghe Should Try And Get The Lacy Win Exsponged From His Record.

It all depends on Taylor's projected purse for this, which I don't know. If Jermain's going to be getting 2-3 million, of course Lacy's right to complain since Jermain's coming off of 2 losses and Lacy is more proven at the weight, meaning a 75-80% split (or more) in Taylor's favor isn't fair. If Jermain's only scheduled to make 750K to 1 million, then Jeff should just man up and take the fight since he should admittedly take a lower split because he's been in "bounce back" mode for a few years now and hasn't looked as impressive doing it.

While I'd fight anybody for the kind of money Lacy's turning down, the purse split here is more important than the absolute number of dollars in question. We're only hearing one side of the story.

I Don't Know The Exact Figure But I Know That Calzaghe Took A Huge Paycut In Order To Put The Lact Fight Together. Joe Was Screwing Around Earning $1m Per Fight Until Lacy Came Around. For The Lacy Fight, I Think He Dropped His Demands To About $600,000-$700,000... Someone May Know Accurately.

It's too bad Lacy ended up being a punk. I liked the guy when he was coming up because he showed some balls and could take a punch. I never thought he would be a world beater (see Vanderpool and Sheika fights), but none the less an exciting fighter. Personally I think that in his heart he doesn't think $550,000 is an insult. He doesn't believe in himself ever since the Calzaghe fight and its just an excuse to not get in the ring with Taylor. He REALLY doesn't believe in himself anymore after his last fight. For gods sake he was put on ***** street multiple times by a guy that is one step above journeyman status.

    People have short memories.

The Lacy that existed before Calzaghe was a strong, swaggering, confident boxer who went out and believed he could beat anyone and often took risks to do it.

The Lacy after Calzaghe has shown a shaky chin, shaky will and ultimately his heart isn't there anymore, he still has the will to win but not at all costs like he used to have.

I blame his corner for not pulling the plug after 6-8 rounds against Calz.

it pays to be an americano. HBO sports should see in boxing a real opportunity to go global like they have with their shows like Sex in the City and the Sopranos.

yeah because in the 12 weeks before a fight you just sit on your arse and then decide to work in the 36 minutes your boxing for. 550k may also be good for 12 weeks work, but then theres the risks that come with the job that requires high rewards to make the risks deseriable. I think it was just the fact that he will be doing the same amount of work as Taylor for the fight, but Taylor will be getting paid so much more... exploitation is a characteristic of the capitalist society, and without trade unions that what alot of boxers get, exploited. I think that is the side of the game that Lacy is rebelling to, perhaps that the only thing that sets his wage is his bargaining power.

It's also a capatalistic society that gives a guy with no real top echelon wins on his resume a shot at making $550,000 in first place!!! For **** sakes the guys best win is against a completely shot Robin Reid and he has the chance to fight for a HALF A MILLION DOLLARS!!!! That's the problem with socialists and union backers, they are always worried about what the other guy is getting or doing instead of making sure their own ducks are in a row.

For ****'S SAKE!!!! I can't believe they actually offered him more than $75,000 to fight Taylor. He just came off a life and death struggle on ESPN against a Mendoza who is barely over journeyman status. I don't know if I've ever heard of a fighter that hasn't accomplished much, then lose in possibly the most one sided boxing lesson we have seen in decades, turn around and disappear for a year and look lackluster against a couple of guys outside of the top twenty, then get offered over a half a million bucks to fight on the top boxing network in the U.S.

Goddamn, now that I look at it that way, capitalism is great!!!!!!!
