Let's say that hypothetically Wilder fought and beat decent fighters within the heavyweight division. Would he then be a respectable fighter? Would there still be a hype train?

If he actually beats the winner of Arreola vs Stiverne, then he has proven he is an actual force in the division.
Of course he already is by some extent, but of course he's hyped far beyond his grade at the moment.

There have been guys like him all the way through history and through the weightclasses, and a couple of them actually made real waves while most failed on the higher level.

Sorta like David Tua until Lennox beat him (I prefer Tua) I despise the term overrated used in boxing but Deontay has more of a support group than he should.

Yep beating Stiverne or Arreola would be by far the best win of his career and would really be his only good win. That alone would prove he's at least a contender and belongs at world level, instead of being the over protected hype job he currently is.

Yes Tua did receive a lot of hype prior to his title shot. Stories about him beating up Holyfield in sparring added to that hype. But at least Tua had fought some good opposition like Ruiz, Ibeabuchi and Rahman to earn his shot and the hype that was surrounding him at that time.

if he makes a statement like lets say stopping either Arreola or Stiverne, then the winner of Perez/Jennings and look good doing it, then he will deserve the hype

    very well stated i say,,,

i claim that this posts statements endorse my own for the most part on this subject :good

to many have completely written Wilder off, through history a couple of them actually to make real waves at the higher levels, barely any, however, a couple here and there do, is Wilder one of them? No freaking idea, until he gets clocked real good by a high level fighter i have no real clue. Is it possible he makes real waves ? Yes it is possible, maybe his odds are low, however, its not impossible.

Regardless, i don't care, he is interesting, seeing him go far or seeing him do a Jab Chicken dance all over the ring with 6.7 legs is going to be interesting no matter what happens to him, i cant hate on him just because he is interesting but still unproven at the top levels

George Foreman is a good example of one of the rare few.

Before he fought Frazier in 1973, he was 37-0 and had hardly any wins over credible opponents, he was mostly knocking over bums. His record was better than Deontay's now, but not a a hell of a lot better.

Switch his opponents any way you wish, he would still be an envied 31-0-0-0 (KO 31) :toney

At 31-0 Foreman.feasted on weaker opposition 1.6-1 vs Wilder 2.2-1
Foreman failed to KO 100%...not as powerful as Wilder :nono

if wilder fought decent comp and went through them like he did with all the guys he really fought then he wouldnt be a over hyped obviously, but as far the fans alot would still be calling him a hype job untill he beats a good fighter.

idk if golden boy is managing his career properly they been lettin the hype build up by fighting way below average fighters. and when he finally does step up the atmosphere and the reality of the situation could sink in cuz its gunna be a huge fight when he steps up n fights the winner of stiverne/arreola.
but that is what they want cuz that means $$$ but it might not be the best for wilder
cuz he might not be ready for a huge step up in class and it really is a huge step up

He's hyped but he's not over hyped. The fact is that he has knocked 31 buster's on their backs in good fashion. That's getting put out there because it's true and just like Mike T, once he gets his shot at higher caliber fighters his knockouts will probably continue. They are hyping him as a must see not as the greatest.

if he gets a few good wins out there, i'll give him his credit. but not until.

beating chumps with no substance isn't a reason to believe he has what it takes to be a force in the division.

Question is; When will Wilder fight a ranked fighter instead of winos from the alley?
