You need a "balanced diet". Not only protein plays a big part in muscle growth / recovery. If you don't get enough carbs protein will be used for energy. Vitamins and minerals play a big role as well. Some vitamins can only be resolved in fat. Fat is also needed for other things. In other words yes you need fruits. Yes you need veggies. Yes you need fats.

Again, a balanced diet. Nuts, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, beans, etc.

Protein and and Complex Carbs 5 times a day. Aim for 1.5-2grams of protein per pound of bodyweight (so if you weigh 200lbs you should aim for 300grams-400grams of protein)

    Best Sources of Protein

Whey Protein Isolates (30g servings between meals)
    Chicken (ideally breasts)
    Turkey
    Lean Beef
Fish (All types, ie, Tuna, Salmon, Cod, Haddock etc etc)
Milk (drink a pint between meals)

    Best Sources of Complex Carbs

    Rice
    Bread (ideally wholemeal)
    Potatos
    Yams
    Pasta
    Cuss Cuss

    Slow Release Carbs for Dieting

    Any Green Veg

That is the basics and you need to be consistant every day at maintaining your protein and carb levels.

If you are actually a boxer you may not want to add weight. Then your meal contents should have very high protein, very high green veg and lesser levels of carbs. Avoid sugary snacks

And then you need red fruits like berries because of the anti-oxidants, you need fats because they're needed for cell repair, vitamins and minerals because they aid in recovery, etc. etc. etc. You can try to outsmart nature or you can just eat a balanced diet.
